Environmental attorney...should I get a B.S. or masters in ecology? |
I am a third year law student and plan on working for a non-profit environmental organization. My undergraduate degree is ni anthropology. Should I get a B.S. or masters in ecology once I graduate law school, or is it not that important? Neither, since you already have 2 degrees (BS, JD), you now need legal work EXPERIENCE in the environmental field. After law school you should know how to research environmental legal issues, or know where and when to get the experts. Get some real world work under your belt if you really want to do any good. B.S. You can have more options that way in case you change your mind.. BS if you just want to get a normal job relating to it, while if you want to teach or something youll need the masters or higher of course. Don't waste your time. Hell don't even finish law school. Quit law school and do something else. When you do something for free or give something for free, do you know how your services or perceived ? They are perceived as being worth nothing. Environmental law is good, though, you can go work in real estate and makes tons of money. You will work like a dog, though. I don't believe you will need either. Most of it is BS anyway. Knowing anthropology, maybe you could help Mr. Gore. He seems to be a brick short of a load. The non-profits do like to get property by using devious means. You will probably learn all you need to know from them about taking peoples land by Eminent Domain. Rather than going backwards, see if you can get an LLM in environmental law. There have got to be law schools out there that have them. |
