Entertainment Law: Is there any Talent Agents Code of Ethics in the U.S. or just in the State of Texas?

Yes. Talent Agencies are governed by the Texas Occupations Code. More information about the laws regulating talent agencies can be found in the link below.

The regulation of talent agencies is likely a state law matter that may differ slightly from state to state.

The California Labor Code has requirements for talent agents (they have to post a bond, etc) and issues licenses, so agents have to have a license. Contracts between Agents and their Clients have to be submitted for approval to the Labor commission.

AFTRA, the actor's union for Radio & TV, has a list of requirements for an agency to be "franchised," that is, approved by the union. They require an agency to get another bond and state how much commission an agent can take, etc.

The Association of Talent Agents has put together a list of agency guidelines that their members voluntarily adhere to.

What unethical thing were you thinking an agent could do to you? The bonds protect you from an agent keeping your money.
