Why is it ok for there to be BET (black entertainment television) and not a WET (white entertainment tv)?

Why is it ok to have a united ***** college fund and yet its racist if there was a united white college fund? Why is it ok for there to be a Miss black america, and not a Miss white america? why is it ok for a minority to tell racist joke, and not right for a white man to say the same joke? Lastly why is there the speration of us such as "afracian american" "cuban american", why cant they just be american. the people that say that just have already divided us. why cant we just be one country?

Because White people SUCK! Naw I'm just kidding, its about time that the minority get something. Damn y'all got your for how long, let us have our time.

All I know is that we shall all be considered as human beings & stand together as one. People need to stop looking at the visual perspective of others & start looking at there own perspectives of there own lives & actions! Let's all act as if we are one & feel free from the drama of racesism. Report It

just go make it and stop talking about it already Report It

umm cause wet is a racial word...

im not really sure about all of your questions but i do know that we can never just be americans. we have diversity for a reason, otherwise this world would be one boring place. why would you want someone to throw their culture away? that is a part of them and a part of what their ancestors went through to make it here and get where they are now, equal. that is like saying that i should say that i am an american and not an woman. i am proud to be a woman and learn about what women went through to get us equal rights. i believe that the different cultures feel the same way.
i do know what you are saying about how the white people kinda get **** on but i look at it like this. african americans went through alot as did native americans and lots of other cultures that live among america. now it is our turn and as a matter of fact i think that we should have a turn!

Excellent observations.
Well, it seems because the blacks have to be favored or else they whine and complain like a bunch of spoiled babies.

Women Entertainment Network. It already exists. White people have far too many channels. Do we really need to say WHITE can you say FOX NEWS, CSPAN, BRAVO, SPIKE, ABC, PBS of MTV2. Don't we have enough?

Well first, there isn't a WET, because BET sounds better(lol). Second, all of this is people's politically-correctness. In our rush to stop from offending people, we have as you said, divided ourselves. The so-called "african-americans" have about as much african blood in them as I do German. We are all american, whether we like it or not. The people who cling to their so-called "homeland"(ex: "african" americans, "asian" americans) should focus more on their HOMEland, america. In my opinion, if they're so intent on being called "asian" americans, "cuban" americans, or "african" americans, they might as well not include the "american" and go back to their "homeland"(I'm not being racist, I just believe we shouldn't classify ourselves and others by these titles).

good question....mmm

african-americans feel that the united states of america owes them something for their tragedy that their ancestory went through. if you wanted you can make a White entertainment network. people have not made it before you becuase the least thing they are worried about is racism and discrimination. I believe sometimes that people dwell on the problems of the past too much when they could've made soo much greater future instead.

Because the vast majority of other television networks cater to white audiences. Creating a WET would just be redundant.

James F is right!

There is nothing stopping you are a private person (or private group) from having a White Entertainment Television. Just as there is nothing to stop Spike-TV from calling itself "a TV channel for Men".

Aside from actual slavery, the constitutional protections against discrimination are against *government* action. Private individuals can discriminate (or promote one group over another) all they want. It's just the government who can't do that.

One exception: affirmative action. This is based on the idea that because there was actual government-supported discrimination in the past, the government has a responsibility to remedy the past discrimination. For that reason, the government can give benefits to one group over another, if that group can demonstrate that it was unfair discriminated against by the government in the past. It's the government's way of making amends, and will continue until the general consensus is that the scales are now balanced.

As to the other part of your question: Why do people associate with ethic heritages? Because it is human nature to form communities around common interests. Just about everyone has a little bit of us-against-them mindset. Doesn't matter if you're talking US against 'danged furners', or secret clubs in grade school, or MENSA, or ethnic pride, or whatever. Everyone wants to feel special, and the do that by belonging to groups.

Then there's the concept of celebrating different cultures and groups, as a sign of respect. Same reason millions of people rally for Saint Patrick's Day to celebrate Irish heritage, whether the people celebrating have any connection to Ireland or not. Or Cinqo de Mayo. Or Mardi Gras. Or, for that matter, National Librarians Week.

It only starts being divisive when one group starts claiming to be better than the others, or claiming that some other group is inferior. It's not the celebration of diversity that divides this country, it's lack of tolerance for diversity. We're never all going to think the same, or act the same, or worship the same, or vote the same. But if we all accept that it's OK for others to be different, without being inferior because of it, then we can celebrate our differences and learn from them, rather than competing over them.
