I'm a movie extra/model, can I claim JSA? |
I've been doing 'extras' work for a few months now, I want to make it in the entertainment industry, but the jobs are few and far fetched right now. I want to know if I can get any support, like Job Seekers Allowance? And if you're going to tell me to get a proper job, don't bother, I've heard it from everyone else already!! They will ask how much work you have done as a movie extra and model. If none or virtually none then they will expect you to take up other offers of employmant otherwse no free state handouts. You can make a claim for JSA, as long as you do not have a full-time job and your income for a particular week does not exceed the amount of benefit. It can get messy if your earnings vary each week - you will have to keep providing evidence of earnings each week - but it is still worth investigating. |
