Re Smoking Ban?

I think It's Hypocritical to say that you agree with a complete Smoking ban in Pubs if the very person who makes such a remark Drives a Car and then goes on to say they suffer from other ppl's smoke and go on about a clean enviroment. Carbon Monoxide is far more Toxic than Passive Smoking. Try locking yourself in a Garage with a Car Engine running you will Die!.The Same can't be said if you did that with a Garage full of Smokers. So think on all you Hypocrits. Look at the Pollution you inflict on ppl when you turn the key and drive off before you sit in judgemnet of others. Much better if the Government Introduced Big Extractor Fans in Pubs n Bars. And have you thought of the effect it will have on you're night out down the local pub. If Local pub Takings go down which they will Imho then the Publican will not pay for you're nights Entertainment so you can all sit there bored, but hey who cares because you Breath clean air right. That is until you Drive off and Pollute the Neighbourhood

it's a health issue. not an environmental one. second hand smoke is DANGEROUS in closed spaces for the people who aren't even smoking!

i haven't even seen smoking staged as an environmental issue. YES, they use the word "environment," but usually with the word "indoor" in front of it! lol

aren't you just a teensy bit bitter.xxxx

It's not legal to run a car inside of an enclosed unventilated building either, because it can kill people.

Banning smoking inside of public buildings has nothing at all to do with outdoor pollution, it has only to do with the health of the people inside.

I live in Ohio, where we have a smoking ban in places like restaurants and bars, and it's a great thing.

I agree with the ban. I'm looking forward to a smoke free evening, can't wait

What if you don't drive or smoke are you then entitled to a smoke free environment?

Good point but carbon monoxide is only like 7% of the emmitions from the car and that has gone sown alot now.

Totally agree with you!! install air conditioning in smoking areas!
No longer a free country!

well smoking is still worse for most people i am asthmatic and being in a room of smokers makes me get very wheezy however i have been in a garage with a 1000cc motor bike turning over and the fumes off that did not hurt my chest so it goes to show that second hand smoke is worse on peoples health

For God's sake, woman! Find a quiet corner and have a smoke to calm your nerves.

I know, When I stand outside my work some fat git starts coughing and looking in my direction and I am like I will stop smoking if you stop eating lard. I pay tax I can do what I please.

what an absolutly brilliant ans..i thank you on behalf of all the smokers....x

Publicans were given the chance to have a smoke free room But they declined saying the cost would be too high so,Smoking ban. They had the chance.I hope you do not advocate drinking and driving.

Congratulations for realising how hypocritical and morally wrong society has become today. Our freedoms as citizens seem to get taken away daily "For our protection." Read 1984 if you haven't done so already.

Hadn't thought of it that way before... you actually make quite a good point!

Although people will argue that the pollution is less hazardous as it's outside - whereas lots of smoke indoors seems to be more 'concentrated'.

I smoke and I'm not loving the ban. But there's nothing we can do and I can see the benefits so I'm just going to have to get on with it. Maybe it will encourage me to cut down once summer is over.

xx Emmie

Whoa.
Chill out/ infact time out.
I smoked for 15 years and gave up 2 years ago.
Im 35 and i can say it was the best thing i ever did.
I have more energy now, which in turn lead to new hobies and im healthy.
Im can't say i agree with all pubs but i for one can't wait.
But hey its a good thing in the long run.
I cound'nt care less if people want to smoke its there choice.
I used to. But i suppot the bill because i don't smoke.

all the environmental stuff is hypocritical. IF global warming is the threat they say it is why do the politicians and actors -Gore, Pelosi, Kerry, Travolta, etc fly around in private luxury planes that cost $22,000. an hour in fuel to tell us to conserve on the $22.00 a day we MIGHT use in energy?
The smoking ban isn't right private places such as bars should be allowed to decide if they would make more money allowing smoking or if they want to be family oriented without smoking. The government should not be in our private lives the way they are!

If you put half your energy from ranting into quitting smoking, you'd save $$ and be healthier too!

Do you use electricity? of course, you probably have a car too, so give up your computer, your washing machine, microwave, tv, car, public transport, all synthetic fibres, all modern packaging and just go live in a cave with no mod cons at all, then you may have a point.
If not, put out your tab, shut up and get a life, chemical warfare mongerer.

Plus, the government make enough out of smokers and i daresay non smokers benefit from that...It will have a dramatic affect on pubs, for a lot of people the smoke and drink go together...If everyone gave up smoking the government would have to find other places to lay the burden...

Well paying for the extra fans will cost- electricity bills will go up, not generally efficient simply for the removal of death smoke.
The new policy is a great thing for non smokers, to be able to go to clubs and leave without the smell of smoke is gonna be great, its about time.
A car has its benifits it moves you somewhere, so the toxins are a sorta give and take policy,..
HOWEVER the cigerette smoke cannot take you to the supermarket and back, your simplly paying for your own death with NO benifits.
The ban is great i hate sitting at a table with people blowing smoke in my face, its annoying and the affects of smoke to the user are also discusting, having to deal /look at People that smoke is not my idea of fun, bad teeth, grey circles, poor skin come on if the smoking ban causes you to smoke less you will feel 100x better..
use it as an opportunity to save your own life and get over it.
SMOKERS do nothing for society, take up somthing less damaging to your self like food! (within moderation!)

just because you don't have a car does not mean your right to make me smoke or keep me out of a certain place...you can go and breath fresh air any time you like .....roll on the ban the sooner the better.....i pay taxes to keep you alive when your wheezing through lack of oxygen and i can't get an appoint at doc because your there coughing and feeling sorry for yourself ...HAVE ANOTHER FAG pump another 拢5.00 of your dole money into a packet of roll your own bakky...if you knew what stench hangs about your person that we have to endure you might think twice about that silly activity

I personally can't wait for restaurants to be smoke free... it is disgusting to be eating your meal while inhaling cigarette smoke coming from the table next to yours. We like to go out as a family & I don't want my children exposed to the smoke either.

My husband has asthma & allergies & I don't think it is fair that someone else's nasty smoking habit causes another person physical discomfort / distress. While many smokers complain that a smoking ban restricts their "right to smoke," they also need to consider that non-smokers have a "right to fresh air."

I agree there are double standards in play here, but it goes so much deeper than that.

As one thing dies, another grows in its place.

Lose a job in a cigarette factory, get one in an outdoor TV factory.

That was lame, but my point is, nothing seems to be thought out by these people.

It can be seen in all aspects of our life here in the UK.

White flight? well I wonder why.

We love you Tony, now fcuk off.

time of the month dear?

Why do people Think that Random use of Capital Letters makes their Rant carry Any more Weight?

One thing at a time! You have a point, and we can keep on voting for politicians who will press for car emissions to be radically cut, and for research to be funded to develop new, cleaner fuels. But given the way society runs these days, we can't just cut out car use altogether, overnight, can we? Whereas we CAN cut out smoking indoors in public places, without having any adverse effect on anything (except maybe some multinationals and their shareholders, who feed off other people's addictions.) Even the smokers will benefit along with rest of us, from the sweeter air inside pubs etc when smoking in them is banned, because no amount of extraction ever really gets rid of the fumes.

A lot has been said about smoking being OK out-of-doors. In fact, there's something about cigarette smoke that catches your throat and eyes even outside - and I don't suffer from asthma. So please can we have No Smoking areas outside! At least until smoking eventually drops off, when smokers begin to appreciate sweeter air again and realise what they have been missing. By-the-way: I put a question on here as to whether people would go to pubs MORE when the smoking ban starts. And the answer was generally yes.

Random capital letters? We've met before methinks.

Don't talk such drivel.......... just stop smoking OK. [ said with a fag in my hand.] Scotland has had a ban for more than a yearr, and you can see the idiots that drink in the pub before you go in, they are all standing outside. Roll on Tesco,Litre Vodka for less than a tenner, and you can pick you;re own company!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

I agree with the ban

Smoking bans are ways for the govt to control the massive amounts of retards in this country. Smoking is a huge mass of the govt income. Basically when its banned other states will pick up those dollars while your taxes go up to pay for the billions not coming in. The sad thing is all the anti smoking lies have no science foundation. Fact is the route of anti smoking science was founded in Nazi Germany. Anyone with a brain can tell you smoking is no big deal only sheep and ******* facist nazis will tell you otherwise.
