Creepy Telemarketers? |
A while back (last week?), a telemarketer (I think it was a financial group) called me at a number listed on the National Do Not Call list. He said that he was interested in me personally (after talking to me for less than a minute...*ponders*). Today, he called back and I asked him to remove me from his company's list and that he was violating the law by calling. He reiterated that he was calling for personal purposes. I said to please stop calling and that it made me uneasy. Are there laws to regulate this kind of behaviour? Are telemarketers allowed to glean phone numbers from their company's list and call people for their personal entertainment? And I'm not sure if it matters but he may not be from the United States (where I am) but the company headquarters are in the U.S. When he called yesterday, I asked him to stop calling and hung up. Just because I am polite does not mean that I am asking to be harassed. If you were in The Great State of Texas you could file harassment charges against him. Next time he calls, ask to speak to his supervisor. Get his creepy butt fired. I am not sure if there is a law against this, but there definitely should be! Call your state attorney generals office and report. This is illegal. Do Not Call means Do not Call! The question is... why do you stop and talk to him? You have the power to hang up. I really don't find it a hassle. When I am called by an annoying telemarketer, I just hang up once I realize he is a telemarketer. What the hell is with the "Oh, sorry, I am not interested." crap? Just hang up. Say "F**k you" if you want. It does not matter. It is just a voice on the phone. He is obviously not going to give you his supervisors number. try to trick him into giving you HIS work number and extension. Then you could call back and ask for the boss. Otherwise, if he keeps it up the phone company can create a call log, bu thet is time consuming and takes a while. this guy sounds a lot more like a stalker than a telemarketer. if he is truly bothering you then you can get his number from caller id, *69, your phone bill or have the phone company get it for you. i'm guessing he's not a telemarketer at all and is just trying to get info out of you. if he's just some guy, as i suspect, you can get a restraining order forbidding him to contact you in any way. |
