Why are psychedelic drugs illegal?

Why do people let government information change their mind about drugs. Theres a reason the government says that ALL drugs are bad. The reason is, they can't make a profit off them because people can make it for themselves for a much smaller price. Take LSD for example. I myself enjoy the drug about 4-5 times per week. Im a chronic smoker of marijuana and a chronic user of psychedelic mushrooms. Im a college student with a 3.9 GPA and in great mental health. Ive been smoking marijuana since I was 12 years old and im now 19. The governments false information is corrupting not only peoples lives, but think about the entertainment industry. Does music have any talent anymore ? Sure youll find a few people in the rock scene that can play, but when psychedelic drugs were legal, music showed greater creativity than any other point in time in the past 100 years. Many important people throughout history were drug addicts. Ulysses S. Grant and Sigmund Freud were both coke addicts. Make drugs le

When you leave school and enter the real, mundane world of working for a living, you'll see that most people can't handle talking on the cell phone and driving, let alone driving and doing crank at the same time.

Well you exagerated on the acid 4-5 times a week :p and if you dint then stop , itsa waste it takes a bit to get outa ur system. I think pots got the worst end of the so called war on drugs, it should by no rights still be a schedual 1 drug. We live ina world where we think are government works for us, it dosent, it works for itself and the people that run it period. Just like all other governments.

Regardless of how accurate your historic facts are, I agree that making all narcotics illegal is excessive. Why we as a country allows this to happen is a false sense of security.

You get a biased group of so called professionals together to say THC is harmful and America dismisses the countless studies that prove with actual evidence to the contrary. The same is with many types of mushrooms and strings of marijuana, in addition to many, many more.

Hard facts favoring the underdog drug are overwhelmed by myths, stereo-types, and claims by scientists who are usually, themselves, government funded.

However, the affects of drugs varies from person to person. To say they are harmless to everyone is as obtuse as saying that they are harmful to everyone. Neither statement is correct.

There is no real solution to this problem and to be honest with you, we as a country have bigger issues that need addressing.

I don't know why psychedelics are illegal, except maybe for the fact that the government can't control them well enough...greed. They want all the profits. Also, many people would realize what great anti-depressants they are and that would hurt the pharmaceutical companies (who love to shove dangerous drugs in us) very badly and in turn hurt the government.

Below me Liz R said imagine the kids today taking LSD...some are, they just keep it more quiet than people in the past. They're probably the most peaceful kids that you see too.

I'm not for cocaine use at all. Look at what Sigmund Freud said...boys wanted to murder their fathers and marry their mothers (Oedipus Complex), and vice verse for girls (forgot what this version is called though). Maybe it was the cocaine that made him think so crazy. Some of his ideas about the id, ego and superego made more sense though. Coke isn't a psychedelic really. However, marijuana, LSD, morning glories and other seeds and mushrooms all fall under the psychedelic category and all of them should be legal. I've preached this in many of my posts on here. First off, none of them have any negative health effects in mentally healthy people. Second, they have all been shown to improve ones thought process, make one happier and more accepting of themselves and their place in the world. Also, I've been reading alot of reports that Francis Crick, joint discoverer of the double-helix structure of DNA, often took LSD to help him think during his work. Obviously it worked!

About music not being as creative, I know exactly what you mean, but look at bands like Tool. Even though psychedelics are illegal, I'm pretty sure they still like to go on their trips! It shows in the complexity of their lyrics and musical structure. I just wish we had more bands as creative as Tool.

Liz R below me...many young people do take LSD, they are just more quiet about it than people of the past. The LSD users are probably some of the most intelligent and peaceful people that you see. The grass doesn't make kids psycho, the alcohol probably does though. Times aren't changing, the population is just booming so therefore...more crazies.

Look on the other side of the fence, could you really imagine any of the kids today taking LSD ? Just the thought of it scares the hell out of me,alcohol and grass makes them psycho.Times Are A Changing.

I don't think scientists say THC is harmful, it is used in many pharmaceuticals. They're against it being smoked in a joint.

You, friend, are only 19 and you don't know what the long term complications will be. When you feel that the little drugs are not good enough, you might be tempted elsewhere.
