Should we ban the keeping of animals in zoos?

The claim that animals have 鈥榬ights鈥?was first put forward by the Australian philosopher Peter Singer in the 1970s and has been the subject of heated and emotional debates ever since. There are many contexts in which the question of 鈥榓nimal rights鈥?comes up. Should we farm animals? If so by what techniques? Should we eat animals? Should we hunt and fish them? Is it morally acceptable to use animals as sources of entertainment in the context of zoos, circuses, horse racing etc.? Often the same organisations that campaign on environmental issues (e.g. Greenpeace) are also concerned for the welfare of animals: both sets of concerns derive from a commitment to the value of Nature and the Earth. The question of animal rights might well come up in a debate on biodiversity, and is one with so many political and social implications that it is also worth having in its own right. This debate is about the ethical principles at issue; the separate debates on biodiversity, vegetarianism, zoos, bloo

I personally like the idea of closing all zoos.

I think we should use zoos to house violent criminals.

I see no need to dispose of the animals before starting this. We can put murderers in with the lions, and child molesters in with the gorillas.

Give it a break,Animals are well taken care of at the Zoo's.

At this stage, should we return them to the wild to starve to death, become prey to wild animals?
Or kill them all out of mercy?

These animals have never been taught, never had to hunt for food.

Yes. Zoos does a good influence in population in the educational level and it's good for people to have the chance to see an animal and learn about them.

But how often are we going to the zoo and for how long do they keep an animal in a cage just in case we show up there to see him/her?. Almost never.

On an age where we have computers with mutimedia, TV and basically TV channels from the entire world, it's time to stop having Zoos. In 10 years I just went 1 time, there are people who probably went less than me, and there are people who probably doesn't go. If they go are teachers every year, with different students, students who probably wont go for 5 or 10 years. It doesn't really make much sense at this point.

It's time to ban them, animals have right, are paying a way too high price.

There are many endangered species in zoos. Without those zoos, what happens to these rare specimens? They can't be released into the wild. How are they to be supported and maintained without a paying public? People aren't going to make donations to support animals they can't see.

If you close the zoos, the animals must be destroyed. If that's what you want to happen, then you don't really believe in animal rights; you just want to make people feel guilty.

Let me begin by saying tha i am not some radical animal rights activist here, but, to answer your question, yes, this should absolutely be banned. On the other note, I fully believe that animals were put here as a source of food. Should they be hunted for this purpose? Yes. Should they be hunted for sport and have their heads hung from walls? Absolutely not. Should people be allowed to wear fur? Yes, if they are lost in the wilderness and freezing to death. For the purpose of fashion, not so much. To take these beautiful animals, most of which are now extinct, or well on their way to extinction, out of their natural habitats only to cage them and put them on display, is wrong. I believe that God put on animals on this earth to feed and clothe(if necessary) humans. However , to hunt them down and stuff them, or cage them for show is an assault on God's natural plan. They are wild animals. Leave them in the wilderness where they were intended to be.

In many issues regarding animals they will become extinct if it where not for zoos.
