I work at AMC and was wondering something?

is it illegal for them to not pay me overtime i work 50 }+ hours a week and never get overtime and i am 19 do they have some sort of excemption to overtime payments because they are in the entertainment industry?

amc is a movie theater

?What the h%#* is AMC???

I think its illegal.

I mean it sounds ILLEGAL

talk to them so they can do something about it,
if they don't,

call a lawyer.

I think an employer has to pay OT to anything over 40.....unless your salary. Contact the labor board to find out the exact rules.....

Here is a link for the Department of Labor that you might find useful:

Do you get payed Salary, or by the hour?

In salary you make a certain amount of money per year, no matter how many hours you work.

In by the hour you get payed by the hour, and if you work out of your regular working time that is considered overtime. This, however, it assuming that you have a set schedule to work each day. For example, say you work every Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you were to work on Monday from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. then that would be overtime.

My guess as to what type of pay you have is that you have by the hour since it is AMC. And also, since your 19, I am guessing that you do not have a set schedule every week like the one described above. However, US law states that any work over 40 hours a week is considered overtime. If you are working 50 hours then tell your boss you are being denied overtime that you should be getting and that you will report it to the Department of Labor if he doesn't give it to you.
