Is public flogging a solution to our chav culture of drink and random violence?

Its cheap, its effective, it leaves a lasting record, it gives public humiliation, provides public entertainment for a sunday afternoon and a sense of 'real' justice to the victim/s.

If the justice system is failing with prisons full and offenders reoffending almost as soon as they get back out of whichever revolving door correctional facility they most recently came out of, wouldnt flogging provide a far more efficient solution. The money wasted on feeding/housing/guarding petty offenders would be far better spent on youth initiatives and trying to tackle the root causes rather than spent on keeping the 'already' offending masses behind bars.

Ah! another advocate of sharia. I believe the answer to social problems starts with responsible parenting, discipline and respect for the Police and other authority figures. Perhaps the parents should have their benefit stopped and be forcibly sterilised. Boot camps are the answer if parents abdicate their responsibilities. Public flogging would be akin to the barbarism in Islamic countries, and has no place in civilised evolved society. Shame potential parents don't have to pass exams in decency, boundaries and discipline before procreating.

I don't know about other people but if someone beat me with a whip I would never do what caused it again.

It would be easier to increase the age limit to 21 inline with the US.

Flogging used to be legal in the U.S. until it was classified as cruel punishment.
Would you like to cut off the hand of a thief for stealing?

How about putting them in incontinence pants in the town stocks for everyone to laugh and jeer at for 8 hours? No loo of course.

In theory, it sounds good.
However, it would never take off due to the offender's civil rights claim.

How much more has the tax payer got to fund these initiatives on keeping the 'Yob Cuilture' under control!!Put the blame where it belongs;On the parents!!

Those charged with the task of investigating and prosecuting offences are far too corrupt and criminally orientated themselves, to ever allow this sort of punishment to exist. It could only be supported by those individuals not intelligent enough to realise that they could so easily be a victim of it, under the current corrupt methodology in the UK. I wonder how supporters would feel if they were publicly flogged, just because the local police constabulary needed to hit another dodgy target!
