(Employment) How true is this old saying?

It's not what you "Know" it's who you "Know"...

Not as true as the new saying "It's not who you know it's who you blow"

It's true to some extent, but you still need to have the skill set the job calls for. Example: If your favorite Uncle Bob is head honcho at a nuclear plant, I doubt seriously if he is going to hire you to monitor the radiation sensors or pull spent rods if your last job was in Accounting.

What you know will determine how successful you will be in the business world. If you know someone who could help you make contacts then that is a bonus. You could know a dozen people who can help you but if you don'tv have skills then even God couldn't help you.

why did you put quotes around the words "know" when they're both the same word?

should be like this: It's not "what" you know, it's "who" you know.

how true is this saying? just ask George Bush.

Very true

BTW The quotation marks should be around the entire saying "It's not what you know it's who you know" since the entire statement is a quote. But the rest of Bill O's answer is right on.

It's who you know that get's you in the door and what you know that will determine upward advancement. Just my opinion.

Sad but true. It's tough to take pride in being a hard-working American when you're passed over for suck-ups all the freakin' time.

it's still tlrue but not as true as it used to be.

It is always going to be true.

Very true. Learn how to network.
