Can an employer reduce your salary once you have signed a contract? |
I will be starting work as a teacher (unqualified) in the UK from September whilst I train through an employment based route. The school have been very generous (paying top end of unqualified scale 拢26746 outerlondon) but I am concerned that they could 'pull' this amount after. I have agreed employment to the terms set, and signed the contract which states the scale. NOT A CHANCE. IF THE SALARY IS LOWERED THAT CONSTITUTES A BREACH OF CONTRACT. WATCH THAT THEY DON'T USE SOME SORT OF ESCAPE TO TERMINATE YOU. LIKE, e.g., A PROBATIONARY PERIOD. MAYBE YOUR RESUME WAS THAT GOOD. HOW DO OTHERS' STIPENDS COMPARE TO YOURS? I am not a hundred percent sure, but if you signed a contract saying that it is your starting then no they cant just reduce your salary like that. I have never heard or experienced such a thing before. In the USA, a signed contract is binding. Perhaps you should post your question on the UK Yahoo Website. (see the little flags at the bottom of the page? Click on your flag.) If how much you will be paid is stated in the contract then they cant decrease your pay they cant pick and choose what parts of the contract to uphold if they violate it makes the contract void |
