I resigned from the Police dept in Jan 2008 and im now considering filing unemployment.

I resigned from the police dept. because i got death threats and resigned to seek other employment. Can i get unemployment benefits?

only if you can document an ongoing hostile work environment. I'm not sure as a police officer that would be the case; but it might be possible.

Apply; just don't spend the money till appeals are over

Depends on the rules for your state. In most cases, since you resigned, it's doubtful that you can claim UC benefits.
