Help with legal question: a tax lien filed in error has ruined my credit? |
I have tried unsuccessfully to remove this by providing copy of the tax assessors' letter that says this lien was filed in error but the credit bureaus still have not removed it, it's been 5 years and it has reduced my credit score to "poor rating" all my letters are in vain; nothing gets corrected... every credit applicaton gets turned down because of it; now I need it for employment reasons; what solutions do you recommend? who's ultimately responsible for this? Pls help. I have repetitively gone to the tax board and they have repetitively electronically sent corrections to the credit bureaus; they say that the problem is with the credit bureaus and that they have done all that they can; that I have to address it with the bureaus. The tax assessor is legally responsible for writing all 3 credit bureaus AND any creditor who refuses to extend credit to you based on his error. Otherwise you could sue for damages. He should have done it 5 years ago. You must make the request and let him know you have suffered irreparable harm and damages. I'd take a wild guess that the lien isn't the only blemish on your credit history. Hi! Many times a person who does have a same or similar name as yours, maybe assigned to your credit and social. It is a form of Identity theft |
