Got arrested, Ex-spouse told my company, got me fired, told my folks, lost inheritence?

My ex spouse is a cop. Sorry cops, but this guy is crooked and corrupt. He has a personal vendetta against me and has for some time. Needless to say, I got arrested for a misdemeanor drug possession. He found out via connections. He contacted my employer 3 months before I evern went on trial for it. My job researched it and fired me after the hearing (I had plead guilty). 2 months after that, he also sent a copy of my police complaint to my brother that detailed the whole story. The letter was sent using my maiden name of which is the only person in the area who knows my maiden name and where my bro lives. He knows I risk losing alot of family money. Do I have a lawsuit? I had a great paying job and am having trouble finding employment now. My job would have never terminated me had they not found out. I think he should be punished for continuing to harrass me and damaging my family relationship and career. I need advice because no lawyer wants to touch this since hes a cop

Yeah you got it right when you said no lawyer will touch it because it is a cop. Your job really shouldn't have fired you they should have provided you with information on a rehab program. It is a part of the Federal Drug Free Workplace Act. It really is wrong of him to do the things he has done to you have you considered moving away, out of his jurisdiction. You can sue him in small claims court and see what happens they usually have a 15,000 limit and I would say he caused you that much in damages.

No lawyer will touch it because you have no case. You did the crime, you pleaded guilty - case closed.

It would have been on public record - that's how your employer found out. Most employers will fire you for drug use and others will not hire you for it. Your ex did not force you to do drugs - it was a totally stupid thing for you to do.

As he lied about absolutely nothing, you simply have NO case whatsoever.

He did not lie, everything was honest and true and he only sent public records.

I do not think you have a law suit as a cop has the same rights to tell the truth and to public records as the rest of us.

You were probably fired for lieing on your application, anyone would be fired for that.

If there was anything confidential he sent out or told any of these people, you might. But, from how you explained things, everything he sent/said was a matter of public record that these people could have found on their own if they wanted to.

SOL, sorry only thing you can do is try to get him back 2 wrongs don't make it right but it sure makes it even. Revenge is served best on a cold plate. Dish it up catch all the corruption he does and use it against him.

Thank you for sharing this. I hope people start to realize how important a persons reputation is, and the consequences of committing even a misdemeanor.

If you are convicted of a crime, you are required to disclose that to an employer. You would have been fired anyway.

Once you pled guilty, it's a matter of public court record anyway.

LOL, I'm sorry, but your story makes me laugh. Sorry, no lawsuit.

Unless he lied about you, you have no recourse against him.

wow! what a jerk. No matter what you have done your family shouldn't turn their backs on you. Blood is thicker than water.

I'm no lawyer but I'm sure you feel slandered in a major way. Unfortunatley it's only slander when it's not true.
With your job...I think they have to offer you treatment before they can fire you. Look into that. You might have a wrongful terminaton suit there.
The damage caused by this is mostly your responsibiliyInstead of focusing on getting even with him, why don't ya focus on getting things back on track with your family.
BTW...He is a jerk, to say the least. But this all started with you having drugs. He might be fueling the fire, but you lit the match here. You can't blame him totally.

In all honesty I maybe a bit 'thick' here but I do not believe he is harassing you. To begin with any arrest is searchable and any guilty plea becomes public record. Furthermore some newspapers do print court proceedings and court findings. It is therefore quite possible your job found out on their own accord especially if your continued employment is subject to periodic background checks.

In regard to your maiden name, it is something that is associated with your personally identifiable information such as: birth certificate, marriage license, social security number, and any court records that may have previously involved you. So it is possible you gave your maiden name or it was discoverable.

Do you have a lawsuit? In my opinion I do not believe you have a lawsuit and it is my belief your drug usage, not your ex-husband, led you to loose your job. Best thing to do is go into rehab and rebuild your life.
