What are the eligibility requirements to collect unemployment in Illinois? |
I was a short term employee who signed a fixed term contract and now the contract/work has ended. Would I be able to file for unemployment benefits even if I wasn't fired. I looked at Illinois Department of Employment Security's website but they are unclear in terms of eligibility to get benefits. Any help would be great! Normally, you need to have worked a certain number of "quarters" (3 month periods) before you are eligible. If your contract was less than 6 months and you had no previous jobs, you probably are not eligible. Getting fired or quitting are two things that can prevent or extend the amount of time before you can get benefits. Call your local office for details. If you had a short term contract with the company, they will not have to pay unemployement benefits to you. you have to be unemployed, and not by your choice |
