Can future employers (government, or not) check my employment history?

I was sick for a long time, and was fired from one of my jobs. I don't think that it is a fair representation of me as a person when I am well, so I was wanting to leave that off of my application. There is something on the social security website that says you can block information so that people can't look at it. I don't know if employers could look at it or not, if I do that. What about the dept of revenue? Is that related to social security? I don't want to be dishonest, but I am getting in debt from unemployment. I know that I am responsible and will be a good worker. I don't want to starve to death.

Future employers can check your employment history. Best to be honest on your application and when you're called in for an interview, explain the break in your employment history at that time.
