Committing employment application fraud?

What are the penalties of committing fraud on an employment application?

I have to give 3 detailed employment references to become a substitute teach in my area but frankly, I don't have any good ones and/or the ones I did have are now gone from the company but I'm extremely passionate when it comes to teaching and I think this would be a great start to my career so I am thinking of just faking them by filling them in myself but how much trouble would you get in if you got caught and what are the chances you would get caught. Do they actually call these people?

They generally don't call all three, but they definitely call one or two of them. If they call and find out the reference is fake then your application goes in the trash.

Good employers do reference checks. Schools have to be extremely careful in who they hire, so I would be suprised if they did not check every single one. Even if they don't, if/when it is discovered, you could be fired immediately and end up with another professional reference you can't use.

Don't take the chance. The best thing to do is to be honest with your employer by offering alternative personal references and explain that you are in the process of building your professional references.

Good luck! :)

Loss of the job. I will tell you for any position that deals with kids they are going to do a background check so they will find out you lied. Having been in HR it is better to be honest and explain then lie and get fired.
