Can anyone tell me which states DO NOT hold felonies against you for employment.?

My boyfriend is a felon and we currently live in ohio. since he's a felon it's quite hard for him to get a good job (even though he's a certified welder) no one wants to hire him. We are considering moving to another state, since we've heard that some states don't hold felonies against people. His felony was for aggervated assualt by the way. If anyone might know it'd appreciate it.

Its not the states, its the employers. Many employers, given the choice between a felon and a non-felon, will hire the non-felon.

I think, you are talking about private sectors.... then moving to a different state won't help him. Private employers are permitted to use any criteria he/she wants in selecting job applicants. Only thing they cannot do is to discriminate against race, sex, age, marital status, and few other well defined criteria. You are right, most places do not hire felons. That won't change if you move.

its unfortunate that some people hold this against especially after you have "done your time" but some companies adhere to a strict policy of not hiring felons..... if you are serious about going to another state to look for work my suggestion to you is to look into the oil and gas industry in colorado they do not make it a practice of holding your past against you and on top of that roughnecking pays kick *** wages and we are having a mega boom here right now... and yes there are many ex felons that i work with on the rigs in western colorado good luck

you know what i saw on the news the other day that they are having a big problem with that in philly pa too. so they are actually offering money to companies who hire felons! so its a win win situation for them both!

congrats on turning your lives around! and good luck on finding a great job!

Go to school and learn a trade that is in very high demand. Like computer programming or electrical engineering. If the employer needs to fill a position bad enough, they'll overlook a felony if you're educated and presentable.

i think it depends on the company hiring, not the state. im not sure though....
good luck =]

not that i know of; so count out Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, and Virginia
