i work in a telemarketing call center, an office job.

Both federal and state law require the employer to provide a safe and comfortable work environment. If the employer fails to do so there are severe penalties.

You did not mention what type of place you work in. If it is a dry cleaning establishment 98 degrees may not be an unreasonable temperature due to the heat of the machines and pressing equipment.

Assuming you are working in a normal environment (without heat producing equipment around you), 98 degrees temperatures would create a work environment that is contrary to the law.

Your complaint should be addressed to your local Labor Board authority. Set forth in clear language what the problem is and they will respond to the employer and give him a chance to correct the problem. If he does not do so within the time frame set forth in the corrective document, the Board will charge the employer and set the case for hearing before an Administrative Law Judge. The rest will be history.

Incidentally, the employer cannot retaliate against you for filing the complaint...to do so would also violate federal and state law protecting whistle blowers.

Good luck.

Call the dept of labor on Monday and tell them you have unsafe working conditions. If people are actually passing out? Call 911 and get an emt squad there to attend to them for heat stroke, and you'll have a record of the conditions.

And then go turn the damn thermostat on!

There are no laws on employee comfort. Only place you can call is other places that are hiring. Sidenote: You don't leave the power on to units that are broken.

There are no laws on employee comfort.
