In Ohio do employers need to have you sign something when they fire you out of nowhere.?

Is there any laws for how a company should terminate employment? What are they not aloud to do. Just want general info.

Unless you are in a union you are an "employee at will".

Neither you or the employer has anything specific they have to do to terminate employment. They can fire you over the phone, send you a letter, whatever. They (or you) don't even have to give a reason for the termination.

No, they don't have to have anything signed at all. You can also refuse to sign - which only means that you do not admit whatever you are accused of. A company can terminate employment in any way they wish to. Their reasons for termination, if any, should be documented if they wish to refuse to pay unemployment. Certain reasons for termination automatically bar you from collecting unemployment. Other reasons can penalize you with a reduction in benefits or a waiting period. They must provide you with your last payment within 3 days of your termination! Most people, and employers, do not know about this. It is federal law. They MUST give you your last pay within 3 days of termination. You do NOT have to wait until the next pay day to collect it if you are fired. (BUT if you quit, you must wait.)

They may ask you do sign something. It's your choice.

Blue Moon --- employers make up the rules as they go along. No matter what rule they use --your still fired...
