LLM or Clerkship?

I just graduated law school two weeks ago and I was admitted into a Litigation LLM program at a very high ranked law school and I was offered a clerkship position with a Superior Court judge. I want to practice employment litigation. I can't do both. Which one should I choose?

Either option seems reasonable. But while you can't do both simultaneously, I don't see why you couldn't do both consecutively.

If it was one or the other, in your shoes I'd probably do the clerkship. What do you think is more useful to develop a practical knowledge of litigation: Reading about it, or working in a court setting?

Clerkships are awesome opportunities for aspiring litigators (and just about any other sort of aspiring lawyer, as well), and you can't count on another one coming along. If you still want to do an LL.M. afterwards...well, if they accepted you in the first place, then I can't imagine they'd turn you away later when the only change to your application is that you have a clerkship under your belt.

Where are you planning to practice? If you're Canadian, the added advantage of the clerkship is that it satisfies the article requirement for licensing. If you did your LL.M. first, then you'd still need to go and article before you could be called to the bar.
