Can I claim unemployment if I was terminated before my internship ended?

My internship (paid) was supposed to be 6 months long. I started January 8 and was planning to stop July 3. For some reason, the stupid company had my last day down as yesterday...and today when I came in, I didn't have access to any of the systems or even to the building.

They sent me home and told me not to come back unless they call me. Therefore, the company did not hold up their end of the 6 month bargain, since I never designated that June 1 would be my last day. My last day being June 1 would have meant that my internship was only 4 months and 1 week...not 6 months as planned.

I graduated college in December and was hoping to have another month or two of income. I'm actively seeking employment but am having a very hard time.

Thoughts?

Well legally you should be able to file,

But, if your work history over the last 12 months,

Is just this last 4 months,

Then you will not qualify for unemployment

Since you didn't work enough hours to qualify.

A six month internship means that if all goes well you will still be on the program for the whole 6 months.

If things don't go as well as hoped the company has the right to lock you out. This happened to you and you will not get unemployment compensation after only 4 months on a job.

Good luck finding work.

Unless you had a contract stating the length of employment, you probably can't collect unemployment from that particular company since you would have had to work there 6 months. Did you work anywhere prior? If so, you should be able to collect.

I worked 8 months on an internship averaging 55 hours/week. I filed unemployment, and then after paying me they told me to pay it back. I never did, and I paid taxes on it, so I dont know what the rules are.

Maybe,

if you worked enough hours to qualify for unemployment you should be able to apply for it & be approved for it.

I thought unemployment only applied to permanent full time positions and not time limited internships or seasonal positions?

not that i know of, but maybe you can find the answers here.
