Can a restaurant discriminate against a former supervisor from coming in and having a beverage and visiting ?


Yesterday my husband and I went to my old place of employment to pick something up from a friend. We were visiting with all of the employees, so I desided that we would have a beer and wait to see some of the other employees. We were there for about 45 min, then manager came in with a vegence. He came up to us and told my husband he could stay but I wasn't welcome there. My husband told him that we were about to leave and that he said his peace and should just leave us alone. Well that didnt sit well and the manager presued us trying to get my husband to loose his temper, which never happened. I retrieved what i came to get and left. Not 1/2 hour later we got a phone call from the police stateing that I am barred from the property. Which was way over the top. I worked there for 2 years and was employee of the month a few times. I resigned not fired. There is no rule that an ex-employee can't come in there if they resign. There are many ex-employees that go in there still. Why not me?

Whatever the reason, you can be barred from the establishment.

The Police would not call you to tell you that you are banned from any establishment. If the Restaurant has a court order to keep you out, and you show up then the manager would have to call the police to come and remove you. I think he just had a friend of his call you to say they were the police. Is the manager the owner? if not contact the owner and tell him what happened. Any good business man will make amends with you and accept your money back into his establishment.

Sounds like the guy was just being a d**k.

I don't think they can do that without a valid reason especialy if you left on good terms

something sounds fishy hear.check with the police. for the police to do that you will want to see the filed complaint.i am thinking there is none.it could have not been the police. save that recording if you can.if it was the police without a formal complaint. some body is in deep do do.do policeman in your town hang out there.ahh.dont let them scare you off.file a harasment case against them.go back any time you like. i assume its a public restaurant.when the smoke clears you may be the new owner. good luck.do not do not let them intimidate you.

Write to his supervisor in corporate and let them know whats happened, point out that in the future you may have considered recommending the restaurant to friends and family for events or dinner, but you would have to reconsider that now. It sounds like the man has a problem, and its certainly going over the top to report you to the police, so you go over his head and report him to his company, just as any other customer would.
If you have a friend who is a lawyer, have him write the letter, it will get a quicker response.
In general though, a restaurant or bar reserves the right to serve who it wishes. In your case it did cause you public embarrassment, and you could sue.

Cops don't call anyone. Besides, it takes a court appearance to issue a restraining order. Otherwise its not binding. Do you think that maybe this jerkoxx put someone up to that phone call?

Just go to all the degenerate web sites you can think of and request all the info., and literature they have, sent to your "friend" (via snail mail) at the restaurant, directly. And keep a constant stream coming, don't do it all at one time, you want to spread out the chances of "others" noticing his "hobbies". Don't pull no punches either, go to NAMBLA ,KKK ,Al-quida, ya know, keep it fresh, maybe the postmaster, or the FBI might be interested too.

It depends on why you resigned. If you resigned because you were going to be fired then whatever reason you had for resigning may be why they don't want you there. It is their right to ban you from the premisis but usually that is done by the owner.

If you have a problem with being told you can't go in talk to the owner instead of the manager. Some times the managers overstep their authority. But if the owner agrees with the manager there isn't much you can do.

I've seen this happen before but it's usually because the person did something to hurt the business. For example at a sports bar I worked at we banned a guy because he pulled a knife on someone in the bar. That sort of thing isn't good for business.
