Please help regarding my employment....?

ok it started off on last week on wednesday , i has having really sharp pains in my stomach , i mean they were so bad that i could not get up from bed , and had to take the days off from work to recuperate , it turned out that i had a really bad kidney infection , which is being treated. well everything was fine i have the doctor's note. but here goes the problem. Yesterday i had an appt with doctor for follow up . i called my job early in the morning to inform them that i will be arriving later than usual do to my appt. During this time , i had a very stressfilled morning. And please don't judge me , i did somethiing stupid and tried to overdose on meds. My family was in the house and they rushed me to the hospital , well anyways the point is that because i was in this bad condition , i was unable to call my job to tell my boss i would not be able to make it in the afternoon, And while being in the hospital from yesterday till today. i overslept with out knowing what time it was.

until they told me i was cleared to go home. But basically that is two days that i was unable to call , I am jusscared , i get this overwhelmining feeling that i am going to get fired , BUT I REALLY NEED MY JOB - Then i was thinking that maybe i should resign i mean if anything it would look better on my record than being fired BUT I NEED MY JOB!! What do you guys think sould i talk to a union rep or something , do i have a law or something backing me up HELLLP ,

i say.....return to your job and speak with a superior about your situation.....be discreet about it(dont give to much information because its your business) apologize for the inconvenience. See what happens from there....and if they fire you at least you were responsible enough to talk with your employer.

I think you should talk with your supervisor and if you have a union, the union rep too. Let them know about the hospitalization and apologize. Offer to submit your resignation if company policy requires that you be terminated for failing to call in.
Future employers CAN and WILL find out if you are fired for cause and if you lie on an application they will not hire you and if you have already been hired and they find out that you lied on the application you can be fired for that.
If your supervisor is a good one he will listen to you and explain your options. Good Luck.

First of all almost no one can find out whether you were fired or left your job for another reason. Second if you were in the hospital you have some sort of record from the hospital just tell your employer you were hospitalized and were not able to call in from work (probably dont want to tell them why). Just get a note from the hospital and you should be fine.

Dont quit though. If they fire you and you have proof that you were in the hospital you can collect unemployment. If you quit you cant.

If you have a Union Job, talk to your Union representative. They cannot fire you over an illness. a bad kidney infection is serious and the medicine is strong. Tell them the medicine made you panic and you had a high fever an had to go to the doctor and hospital ..No one can work with a fever and a kidney infection.
