Previously Unemployed Friend got a job by lying, your thoughts?

They say that honesty is the best policy but that is not always possible when one needs a job badly.

A friend of mine lied to get a job and got away with it. Everyone told him he should tell the truth and everything will work out at the end. He was days from homelessness and could not get an employer to hire him because he had been unemployed for so long. They assumed that because he was not working something was wrong with him and passed him up for a more in demand employed person.

So finally he decided to say he was working for a local large company that charged for verification of employment. He assumed he would find an employer who would just check his personal and professional refererences and not bother to check his employment background. He thought that if he was found out and was not hired or fired he would be no worse off than he was before.

He just wanted to work and help a company. He was hired because of his false background and has been there for six months now.

He would hate to get caught someday but even if he is fired tommorrow he is still ahead financially and emotionally than he was six months ago unemployed and broke.

Uhhh this is a tough one - generally I believe honesty is the best policy... but..... I gotta admire this guy for pushing the boundaries to achieve something for himself.
He obviously is intelligent and capable of his job position otherwise they would not have kept him on for 6 months. His employees must be satisfied with his work ability so has there really been any harm done?
While I dont condone dishonesty it appears he did this to survive....It appears that hard work is better than settling for homelessness. Worse comes to worse, he will have a bit more experience and hopefully more contacts for his next job.
I cant help admiring anyone who is willing to work hard instead of crying 'poor me' and asking for a handout.

Desperate times call for desperate measures...he got the job so just leave it alone; he obviously needed it.

Everything is fair in love, war, jealousy and hatred so go ahead. But what if he knows that you are the source of getting him fired from his now job ? You say you want to help that company. Whose company ? Does it belong to your father-in-law ? What the hell you had been doing all those days when your friend (yes, you say "a friend of mine") was homeless and jobless ?

Good luck. SOmetimes desperate times call for desperate measures; tell him I hope he doesn't get promoted or bought out and need an indepth check they are willing to pay for; or social security doesn't catch him.

So hard, because life is just not black and white, rigth and wrong. Oh if it were! It is actually illegal to lie on a job application, so that is a risk, a big risk, that your friend took. However, if he has been there for six months, can we assume he is doing a good job? Hopefully he will know that he got away with one, and one that he needed to survive, but will remove the false job from his resume now that he has this legit one. Tell him to work there for as long as possible to build his resume for real. And good luck!

He is lucky an illegal alien didn't get the job 1rst.

If he is a "friend of yours" , how does that lie affect your life ? Be happy for him !

I don't blame him, there aren't many good jobs out there. I would do it to if it would keep me from being homeless!

If he's happy with his employment and his employers are happy with his work, just let sleeping dogs lie. The likelihood of them checking job references at this point are pretty much zero. (Unless some jerk anonymously contacted them to do so...) You should be happy for your friend and celebrate the fact he has a much brighter future, both financially and emotionally. :o)

Theses days it is hard to find a job. I would say by any means necessary. you gotta do what you gotta do. Now a days for alot of companys it is not what you know...its who you know. Your just as smart if you know how to use your resources.
