Can you be1099'd without signing documentation about employment or services? |
If you never signed any paperwork (w9,etc.) should you still be 1099'd, this work was in a nightclub and checks were "under the table." If so, is this a case where you should fill out a SS8 to determine employment status. I don't think they have my address, SSN, etc to even validate the claim. Yes you can and you will be held liable for the taxes. I know someone that this happened to. They had to pay the taxes, plus interest and penalties. If they don't have your SSN it will be hard for them to do but if they do have the SSN you may end up owing taxes and not be aware of it. . Of course. If you get money, the IRS wants to know about it. Period. They have to get your social... As long as you keep it from them, they cant claim it against you. They are trying to write off the expenses of your services. They should have hired you legally as an employee or contractor. Unless you want to continue to provide services to them, I would tell them to F-off. They can send you a 1099, but that don't make it real. |
