Employment concern....?

I just found out from a fellow co-worker that I am going to be let go from work. I work through a temporary agency through the plant and they are training a girl to do my job, and I found out about that also. I worked for a law firm before and I thought that if a company lets you go for lack of work that they can't turn around and hire someone to do the same job you were doing. Is that right? Someone please help.

I don't think it is. If you are looking for any type of Laws around this subject try the site below. Make sure to change the Location/State. Hope this helps.

Termination of employment must be always with a valid reason under the labor laws. Thus, if you are invalidly dismissed, you can always file a case against the employer.

Well, working through a temp agency, you can be let go anytime for any reason the company wants without any explanation. You may have had a case if you were a permanent employee.

My advice to you is just to get another job. You can't really do anything about being let go from this one.

You don't work for them- you work for the temp agency. They have the right to let you go and hire a permanent staff person. That is why temp agencies exist- to tide places over with qualified help until they can interview, hire and train the right person for the job.
If you worked directly for them and they let you go they can still get away with it sometimes because they downsize- lay off a percentage of people- then make other people they kept take over multiple roles.
If they really thought you were the right person they would have offered you a job. Since they didn't, check with the temp agency and see about a new assignment. Good luck!

Temporary Agency? I am assuming is a temporary job anyway. If you want to know the true go to personnel (Human Resources Office) and ask that question. Learn to ignore stupid gossip. You should not be worry because every job is a learning experience that prepares you for a better job. Good Luck!

since you worked for a law firm before. i would contact them. they should be able to help you. then if you dont get responce, call the labor board. no, this isnt legal, unless you did something wrong, or unethical on the job. just because a supurvisor wants someone younger, prettier, or mabe a new girlfriend, is soooooo wrong. dont let them do you like that. fight them with everything you have. good luck
