Will the current troubles in London and Manchester result in employment of a modern version of the 'sus' law?

...for those who are unfamiliar to it, the 'sus' law was part of the 1824 Vagrancy Act...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sus_law
...but was overused by the police in the major cities in the mid-seventies onwards...especially during the first years of Mrs. Thatchers' government, basically to put fear into first generation Brits, who's parents hailed from the West Indies. It, in fact did the opposite, starting with Carnival riot of 1976, through to the death of a policeman in North London nine years later, with riots in Brixton, Toxteth, St. Pauls and Moss Side getting a look in during that time. Will the police (in 2007), in order to attempt some sort of authority in the troubles areas of late re-apply such laws - stop all black males from the age of twelve to 62 to frisk and ask the usual questions - with a few hours in a police cell if they display 'attitude'; id est...say nothing at all?

Thank you for the first three answers...but I was just wondering how the current black 'machismo' will be dealt with. In the early eighties, the 1824 Vagrancy Act gave the worst sides of authorities having black mothers empty their shopping bags out on the bonnets of police cars in Manchester, and searching old Jamaicans with shirt, ties and hats on as they were coming out of the bookies...such was the anger of the police at being a wee bit too slow for the young 'uns who were running rings around them. This is nothing to do with Mrs. Blair...just saying that will the police, and other authorities take it upon themselves to do what they did 27 years ago - sneer snarl, and pull funny faces at the wrong people - with them knowing about it soon enough afterwards. Of course, time was when only Molotov Cocktails were the must-have objects to return the serve...

i dont think so.
I do feel strongly that the black community have a cultural problem which makes it more susceptible to having problems with gang culture, gun crime etc-when their are social problems such as housing, employment etc.
My theory is as follows-Asians and Black immigrants arrived at the same time to the uk.The black people had head start as they spoke the language. The Asians were submisive and bit their tongue. They took the abuse, racism etc and got on with their work. The blacks were more aggressive and were reacting to the racism[nothing wrong with that].The blacks have a more macho culture and probably feared as well.Racism has always been a big topic of conversation amongst the black community.Although racism has existed-whereas the asians took it in the strides-the black community allowed the developement of a blame culture. This exists to this day.
The truth is there is racism, but whilst the black community leaders need to deal with this, they need to encourage there communities to still strive for self improvements, despit the problems.
Like the black people suffered slavery, the jews too have suffered throughout history. The jewish character as a result has imbued within it,a 'never again attitude'.They therfore work and strive for prosperity, power, wealth and influence. They have succeded. The black community has a lot to learn from them.

I am sure they will use this as an excuse to clamp down on everyone. It will probably become part of their argument for ID cards.

It wouldn't surprise me if they use it for an excuse to put troops on the streets and clamp down on going out at night.

They should never have gone away.

No, Cherie Blairs "human rights" law has f*cked us all up on this. You cannot home in on muslims to check for bombs because it is racist and infringes their human rights, likewise black gang members... sod everyone elses rights these people cannot be searched in case it 'upsets their feelings'. No wonder the police have given up and targetted their attentions on the soft touches... motorists!!
Sorry but the UK is now on its way to hell on a handcart...

if it stops crime i all for it.that is not a racial comment if you say bang up the White stealing junkies i would say bang them up too.its not about colour its about a persons upbringing.mate u got some paranoid delusions going on,first generation hailed from the west indies, give me a brake .do u seriously think that it was a black thing.mate u r wrong so so wrong it was a Maggie power hey i am a selfish bastard look after me and screw u generation.i would say most working class families got hit by that bit ch.

Regarding the shooting of young black males?
Seems to me at the moment that it's 'gangster' versus 'gangster' at the moment.
Can't see a problem!
Let the muppets shoot themselves, I don't have a problem. They wanted this way of life, let them reap the results.
The only problem I have, is the possibility of them pushing 'hard' drugs in these areas.
Ant the police are damned either way.
Do nothing, they are wrong.
Do something to combat the trouble, they are wrong.
They, which ultimately means US, are in a no win situation.

I am sure they will use it as an excuse for the police to harrass young people.
