How many times can my employer extend my temporary contract of employment? |
I am now on my fourth temporary contract doing the same job. Is there not some legal requirement to make me permanant. No. They can extend it as long as they want. If you keep accepting it, then obviously you're happy with it. Maybe they don't have the money for a full time position, and so they just have a temporary one that comes up for review. no legal requirment at all, you are a short term contractor. it will only end when he offers you a long term contract, or doesn't offer one at all or you decide enough is enough and move on. No legal requirement at all. They can renew it as long as they like. Why don't you ask if you can go permanently yourself? Nope, indefinite. Be grateful you have a crust earning job. If you feel you want more pennies then search around for a better umbrella company. good question, he can extend it for as long as he likes, its like his get out of jail card! if ever he needs to get rid(sorry dont sound good) he can with out any back fire on him!/ her! also means they can get away with giving you less intitlements like sick days holidays and things like that! sorry if this aint waht you wanted to hear. He's under no obligation to change you to permanent status. In fact, I've heard more than once of someone working in a temporary capacity for many years, and not getting the job when it finally got offered as a permanent post. read your temporary contract,,or ask your union,, maybe a co worker will know?. Or be brave- go into your bosses office- and ask, they would have to give you correct information. good luck.hope its permanent soon. sorry they can keep it going as long as they want to, not great i know, maybe it might be better for you to look for another job with, peace of mind that your job is safe, hope that helps also check out employment law, that will help you too, all th best |
