Should i quit my job?

ok, so i work at a popular little restaurant in my community and i've only worked there about 3 months. i was so happy to finally get hired and start making money. the pay is very good and i love the people i work with. i couldn't ask for a better first job. but about 5 weeks ago, on a night i wasn't working, a deep fryer caught on fire and set flames shooting through the chimney. the kitchen got the majority of the damage, the rest of building is fine. so heres the problem, my boss thought that he could re-open shortly after things were cleaned up, but some higher power in this situation told us to re-model. and now the landlord is in charge of when it can re-open.

bottom line, its been almost 6 weeks and i'm still out of work. i cant file for un-employment because i havent worked there long enough, and i literally have no money left. (and with all the gas prices....thats a problem) so what should i do? should i quit and find a new job, or just wait?

Really, it sounds as if you already know the answer. You said you are almost out of $$$.It seems you have no choice. Talk to your boss and tell him you have to find work elsewhere, but if you and he agree, you will come back when they finish re-modeling. (if you don't like the job very much, you can stay with your new one...or vice -versa.

Find a temporary job.

well your not working right now so why don't you just look for another job but not quitting your current one then when you current job back up just quit the other one

Find a part time job and hold on for awhile. If it still doesn't reopen, find a permanent job elsewhere.

Find a temp job and make it clear that you onley want the job untill your old boss calls you back.

If I were you ,I would look for tempory work ,and talk to the boss and tell him your still interested in coming back to work for him when he open back up. This would let him know that he can call you when he open up.

Perhaps it's a long shot, but personally this is what I would do:
I'd call the owner of the restaurant and tell him of my situation and how much I loved to work there. I would ask him how things are holding up for him during the renovations and if there is anything I could do to help him out and get some pay for it. Perhaps he's loaded with paperwork or trying to figure out stuff. Sometimes a helper is greatly appreciated even if it's not the same type of work. Perhaps he knows someone who needs someone. If all this fails, then yes, look for something else. Good luck my dear. I wish you the best.

Wait for what? You should asked the management or the manager of the restaurant where you are working to inform you if how long should you wait to organize the system back to its original place otherwise, you are force to look for other suitable job in the coming weeks, tell them your stomach and your house rent plus monthly bills cannot wait along with you while the landlord is still deciding if and when should the restaurant be back in full circulation.

6 six weeks is already considered too long to wait. Well if I am in your case I would rather look for other jobs available much preferred a part-time job so that in the coming weeks if the restaurant is back from the grave then you could return there in no time at all. Rather than to wait for something to fall down from the sky, what if it is a space shuttle then you're dead.
