Low Income/Disabled Aunt living without heat.. AmeriGas won't deliver due to outstanding balance on account

Aunt Helena is 73 years old, is a diabetic and is disabled... She does not have the $700.00 she owes on her AmeriGas Propane bill. They said they would deliver gas but,, they would need to be paid in cash as well as collect a $100.00 delivery fee.

Talk about elder ABUSE! Ughhhh!!!!!!!!!!

Is there a program for disabled, elderly & low income she can sign up for? Again, she is now living in a mobile home,without heat or a way to cook and needs assistance soon... We took her a couple electric heaters and deliver her meals but we need help..

It is very sad when we let our own elderly,disabled citizens suffer in this way.
Have her contact the welfare office,they should be able to point her in the right direction,and she may be eligible for some other relief benefits with them also.Contact the agency on aging in your area,they should be listed in the blue pages in the phone book.I know in my area,the Salvation Army will help in emergency situations like this,call them too.Also any local groups you have in your area,such as the Moose,don't know what state you are in,but organizations like that help out in emergencies.Contact local churches.There are also energy assistance programs out there also,depending on your area,they should be listed in the blue pages too.
It really angers me when people are treated like dogs.These are our own citizens and they can't get any help.
Good luck and continue to look after your Aunt.She has a good niece who is looking out for her.

this is a shame, who said we live in a free country...yes there are programs that can help...call the nearest office of the aging, where you are to start with...God Bless...

First of all, I would like to know what state she lives in.... Up in Rhode Island, it is against the law to turn off electicity, gas etc. during the winter months, no matter how much is owed.

Saying that, it is a shame that she is going through this.

I would contact Human Services for the elderly. They should be able to point you in the right direction. Also, if she is involved in a church they might be able to help. There are programs out there to help with this, although, $700.00 is a lot of money to come up with........
