Are Disabled banned from renting in London (UK)?

An old friend who worked on the railways for 34 years was involved in accident last year, and as a result, suffers from severe epilepsy, of which he receives 'disablement allowance'. He decided to return to London, but find it hard to rent...agents and landlords seem to have twinned his allowance with DSS, and have told him either to go back to Norwich, or get his elder son (who he's staying with in Balham) to build an 'annexe'. Fine way to treat someone who left school straight to a job at 15, forty-two years ago...is there anywhere in London that caters for people who seems to have been criminalised on account of illness?

if your friend goes to citizan advice bureau, its free, and they will help him with all legal and housing matters.

Why does he tell them he is on disablement allowance, why doesn't he just say he is working

That is disgusting is there a citizens advice center in London.Therehas to some one who will help him & it is discriminating. Please wish your friend Goodluck in finding a nice new home.

I would kick up a fuss it is illegal to turn someone down because they are disabled

There is a centre outside London with accommodation for adults suffering from epilepsy. It may, of course, have a long waiting list, but here is the website: http://www.stelizabeths.org.uk/
