Why is that ppl who aren't retired the SS doesn't recover?

What i really mean is how is that social security only payes elders who are retired, n some that arent retired, but are elderly?? Why does social security only supports retired elders with monetary awards n not those other elders who haven't made it to retiring, like my dad??? that really pisses me off, what's the reasoning behind it, i think that's discriminatory towards elders who arent retired n arent working??

Social Security doesn't cover the retired because America doesn't have the funds to keep it going. We are in a very high deficit right now and are deeper in it since the last Bush was out. We were seeing light at the end of the tunnel when Clinton was in office, but George W. is making that a farther and further reality with this war on terror. We need to create new companies to provide competition here and abroad to generate revenue to pay off our debts.

Hope this helps.

You have to actually look at all of the social security laws and benefits. Keep in mind the following things:

1) Social Security takes a percentage of a persons income (and does not tax them for that income) at an early stage, when the economy is several years before their prime. (Consider this, you assess a percentage against a bottle of 'coca-cola' that will nowadays cost you anywhere from $0.50 to $1.00 a bottle.) and

2) The Social Security funds go to pay for things other than retirement, such as death benefits for the individual who had contributed to social security and in some cases, payments for their survivors.

I occasionally receive statements regarding my payment into Social Security with regards to how much I've put into the system, and how much I can expect to get back. So far, they show I'm only going to receive 70% of the money that I put into it. Not a very cheerful thought since I earned 100% of it and could probably have gotten a better return on my investment elsewhere.

Apparently the benefits are for those who only retire or die; and when they die, that's when the most benefits are drained if they died much earlier than their retirement.
