My Mother is 88 years of age and pace maker dependent. She is on her 5th pacemaker and only has 20% heart func

She enjoys shopping Wal-Mart when she is able. Today when she tried to exit on one of the electric carts she was physically stopped by a young woman greeter. "You can't take the cart outside because we are short of carts." Mom replied I cannot walk that far.The reply was" You'll have to today we're short of carts" This woman was rude and very demanding. Her tone of voice was not acceptable. Has this woman never heard the phrase respect your elders. Mom is not a rude person and tries to get along with everyone. A young man named Billy (Wal-Mart employee) came by and told Mom go ahead with the cart I'll go along and bring it back inside. The greeter needs to be reported to the Manager. I called the store and ask to talk to the MGR. and had to talk to some one else as he was busy. The woman I talked to was about the same temperment, as the greeter. The outcome was so what do you want me to do about it. Wal-Mart was founded on good customer relations, I met Mr. Walton in the Broken Bow, Ok

Write corporate and tell them your experience. Address it to the CEO. You can look that up at Yahoo! finance - it's a public company so their names are posted. Don't email it, send a real letter. I even recommend printing out this page that you were so distraught that you posted your experience here.

Be sure to get the names of those involved including the lovely young man who helped you.

This is unacceptable IMHO.

Sorry for the bad day. Try calling again and speaking to the manager only.

They can do what they please. Blame the folks who steal carts or throw them into the street. They don't know that your mother has problems.

well the greeter was doing his or her job. the other person probably could give your mom the go ahead to go but maybe the greeter couldn't. you could have brought the car to the door to pick her up instead of fighting.

Considering that Sam Walton died in 1984 (I think, its been awhile) I'd say you need to update your information.

Remember that someday, they'll be old and have to walk with a cart also.

Time heals all wounds; Time also wounds all heals

The Walmart of today is nothing like the Walmart that Mr Walton started and operated. The store today is much more worried about profits, they have cut the number of employees in thier stores ( at least in all of our local ones)

I have read all year about class action law suits where they have cheated employees out of pay, and more such things.

And honestly that women would have been ran over had she tried to stop me.

Please write them a formal letter of complaint and also see if you can contract the manager directly.

"respect your elders" doesn't mean that your mother can do whatever she wants with property that does not belong to her. The employee was given instructions, and she was following them. Her job depends on her doing what her boss wants, not what your mom wants.

Your mother was wrong to argue with the woman. If Billy had not come along, she should have gone off to find a higher level employee with the authority to override the "no more carts outside" rule. I'm sure they would have made an exception given her age and health.

It's wrong to argue with an employee who doesn't have the authority to disregard instructions. What did your mom expect her to do ... risk being written up or fired? When you are in that situation, you need to go higher up to someone who does have the authority to grant your request. Clearly this woman did not.

Seriously ... what do you want them to do about it? Yell at the greeter for not disobeying the instructions she was given by her boss? Buy your mother her own personal cart? Hunt down all the people who left their carts outside instead of returning them to the store causing the cart shortage in the first place? Beat the cart collector who called in sick?

They were afraid that the cart would be stolen, the same thing happened to my sister at our Wal-Mart.My niece has MS and didn't feel like she could walk into the store to get a wheelchair. My sister went in and asked for one and was also treated rudely when she wanted to take it to the car to get my niece out.The greeter told her to drive the car to the door.So that is exactly what my sister did, drove right up to the door, underneath the entrance way. That really made the greeter panic, but at least my niece only had to walk two steps to get to the wheelchair. In these cases, they should ask an associate to go out with the person if they are afraid the chair is going to be stolen. They can assure their property is returned and help someone at the same time.

I worked in retail for quite awhile. The greeter may have been rude, but depending on what her history is, she will probably only get a reprimand. I can tell you for certain that customer service is a top priority for retail chains. Next time, ask the greeter or another employee if they will take the cart out to your Mom. This way they don't have to worry about company property and they can provide excellent customer service to boot.
Best wishes
