Can anything be done about receiving two tickets for expired registration in two weeks?

When I got out of the military I forgot to change my address with the CA DMV and I didn't realize my tags were expired until I found a ticket on my windshield for having expired registration. Being that it was over a month out of date the I was told it would cost me $133.00 when I called the DMV. Due to the fact that I am a student and surviving completely off my education benefits, I won't have enough money to pay it till the first of the month.

I initially wrote it off as negligence on my part but today I came back to my car after school to find a 2nd ticket for my expired registration less than 2 weeks after the 1st one.

Is there any limit on how many tickets they can give me or any way that I can get at least one of them dismissed?

Thanks for all of the advise.

Having taken a look at the back of the ticket I have realized that it says the fine is only $10 with proof of correction(which I will be taking care of very soon).

I am not sure if the poster who said that they will take you to jail for expired registration was just trying to scare me but I do know that registration is a civil matter, not criminal, meaning you will not go to jail, they will just impound you car if you have more than 5 violation according to the the back of the ticket.

I was mainly curious if anyone else had had a similar experience and how it worked out for them.

Let them know you just got out of the Military, and hadn't had a chance to get the tags done yet. Appear in court for your citations and speak with the Judge in a honest, clear voice, and more than likely he'll understand your situation and dismiss the tickets. If your court hearing hasn't came up yet, and you still have some time, go to the DMV office and tell them the same story. More than likely they would understand and assist you in getting the tags straightened out. Good Luck, and Thank-you for your service to our Country.

First thing you really must do is get the car registered! That will stop further tickets.

Next, go to traffic court (with your now current registration)and explain you financial situation. They will often bend over backward to come up with a plan so you can pay off the fines. Sometimes they are able to "forgive" quite a bit of the total.

In theory, every time you drive the car you can get a ticket, until you pay the registration.

The judge is unlikely to dismiss a second ticket - you'd been given notice (the first ticket) that your registration was expired - but you drove it anyway.

The school police cop probably recognizes your car now, and will be looking out for it. You can expect to get a ticket every time you park at school until your registration is paid.

Watch yourself!
What happens is if you don't respond,
(or jump through their hoops) and answer
and pay their tickets they issue a warrant
for your arrest. Since they know where
you park they simply wait 'til you show up
one day and cuff you and take you to jail.
They impound your car and hold it for
"ransom" until you pay all their tickets,
AND their additional fines, AND court costs.
You could end up spending months in jail
unless someone bails you out and they
usually put such a high fine on your car
the towing company ends up re-selling it.
That's how it works, friend! You better
go in fast and see the judge!
