Is a mother legally obligated to pay for food costs for child who is a college student? |
Neither parent is paying for the cost of the undergraduate education, but the father pays child support. The student just turned 21 this year and is in her last year. Is there a NYS law that requires the mother to still provide food costs while the child is away attending school is she still claims that child as a dependent. I'm really at a loss as what I need to do. Seems to me the 21 year old is legally responsible for themselves. Since the father is still paying child support, and that child support is supposed to go to the needs of the child specifically related to their health and welfare, and in this case eating falls under that category - than yes, you are required to give the child money for food. If the father is paying child support to YOU for this child, yes you should be using that mone to provide for your child's food, otherwise, why on earth is he paying child support? mother needs to cut the umbilical cord from her baby and somebody need to grow up and be responsible NO one is obligated to take care of you but yourSELF!
