Is it illegal for a teacher to refuse to give D grades? |
A teacher at our school is threatening to fail one of my friends from her class because he has a D. He IS passing, but the teacher refuses to give out D's. It's either at least a C or Fail. Is this legal? It is not illegal. You can certainly talk to the administration, however chances are that they will back up the teacher. interesting, we didn't have D's at our school. We only had A, B, C and F. I guess you would have to look at the school's policy on failing. at some schools they dont even have D's..if you get anything lower than a 70 (C-) then you fail. so its not illegal It is totally legal and every other school out there has the "pass fail" rule that can be used. If it is under a C it is a fail. It's not illegal, no. However, you can take it up with the principal. However, as a former teacher, I always thought it took a lot of effort to get below a C. That means your friend put absolutely minimal work effort into a class. It might be a good idea to show him that hard work pays off. There is always summer school It's not a question of legal. There is no law about it. If anything, it would be a violation of the school's policy. Your friend needs to go talk to the school administration about it long before you even think about going to the board of education. Of course it's legal for a teacher to give out whatever marks she pleases, she sets the grading policy for her classroom. Speak to her or to the principal if you have a problem with it. The Board of Education won't even bother to hear what you have to say. no its nnot ok you should take to theBoard of Education! t sounds like something that'd be brought before a principal or board of education who would undoubtedly pass this student. |
