In what aspect does The Untied States of America fail the most in?

In my opinions, amerian schools are a huge failure. In general, they focus too much on content that is irrelevant and don't focus nearly enough attention on character and responsibility. Schools are breeding grounds for drugs and violence. Why do parents not have the option to home school their own children instead of being forced to subject them to appalling, repulsive, and imprudent schools? I think voters in this election need to make education the main issue because when it comes down to it, that is the main factor that determines our country.

I agree that education in the US is severely lacking, in particular I think we need to improve health education (because the US has an absurdly high amount of easily preventable hypokinetic diseases, making sure the next generation doesn't suffer from them is paramount). I disagree on the point that they need to focus on character and responsibility, mostly because I don't believe in objective morality. If anything I think kids should be warned against following the baseless morality of the herd and instead taught to create their own moral code based on life lessons.

I also disagree with using homeschooling as a viable alternative to public schools. Homeschooling requires parents to have extensive, up-to-date knowledge on multiple subject matters, which, for the most part, I don't believe they have. It also requires that the parents have a sizeable amount of free time, which I also don't believe most parents have.

Parents do have the option to home school their children if they want. In 2005-06, 2.4 million children in the U.S. were home schooled. So if you want to keep your kids at home, do it!

Sidenote: The purpose of public schools is to ensure a base line intelligence for all citizens. It is up to every individual to engage in extracurricular activities to enhance their character, and it is up to parents to ensure that their kids are well-rounded whether they go to public or private school, or whether they are home schooled.

Education IS a failure in alot of cases, not all but some. And homeschoolinging IS an option in every place that I know of. We, in fact, plan to homeschool our children at least through middle school.

I also feel that we fail in handling non violent crime. We need to legalize recreational drugs, prostitution and gambling and get the criminals out of the picture, empty half of our prisons and handle it as a social and health matter instead of a criminal one

Don't parents have the option of home schooling? I've met a couple in my life who were...

I will agree that the public school system has taken a nose dive though. It's not something you can attribute to politics though, in my experience it has a lot more to do with the quality of the educators.

yea schools suck in America because they dont teach you about the possibility of becoming an apprentice or they simply tell you ur a failure if you dont pass every class (even the ones that'll never matter)... THE SAME PEOPLE THAT CONTROL THE SCHOOL SYSTEM CONTROL THE PRISON SYSTEM & THE WHOLE SOCIAL SYSTEM!!... someone must put a stop to the government controlling everything.. i just might. PEACE!!

The Untied States of America?

Character and responsibility are a parents job. In most states you can home school. Schools are a local responsibility not national.

I do not believe in Home Schooling at all. I think the trash on the television is the main problem with young people. They need to learn better ethics and reading and writing and turn off the terrible tv shows.

Character and responsibility is the job of the parent. Until we get rid of the liberal unions your government sponsored education will suck. period.

Well public schools are in every sense of the word public.
Its a sad sight to see an LAPD parked outside of a high school every morning and I can tell you for sure they arent there because the kids need protection from a adult.

That is because the schools took religion out of the classrooms.

They deemed it 'unconstitutional....'

HA!

Unconstitutional, my foot!

Conservatism is being neglected in America.

Character and responsibility starts at home. When parents fail in that duty, they send a crippled child into the world. Schools are where knowledge and learning should be taking place.

What are you talking about??? Home schooling is alive and well in the U.S. In fact, it is thriving. My niece was homeschooled through to the 9th grade. She then asked to attend the local high school, where she joined the band. She excelled and made straight A's, but lamented that most of the kids didn't seem interested in learning. My niece, on the other hand, had (and still has) a deep love of learning, and halfway through her sophomore year, she asked to be homeschooled again. Eager to begin college studies, she graduated high school early, and now is in college, aspiring to become a doctor.

She is also very world savvy, and plenty socialized, contrary to popular myths about homeschooling.
