How can i sue for mandatory school uniforms?

i want to sue the school, county, state, and board of education for allowing school uniforms to be mandatory because it is a violation of the first admendment of the united states constitution. which falls under freedom of speech

hows what your wearing have to do with freedom of speech?

Why stop at school? Why dont you sue work for having a dress code, Sport teams for having uniforms. It really is all the same no?
In 2007 the ACLU sent a letter to the Metro Nashville Board of Education which said that the proposed policy of school uniforms band most forms of expression, but continued to allow students to display clothing brands and school emblems while prohibiting expression of all other viewpoints.
The ACLU's biggest gripe was the fact that the proposed policy allowed labels and branding of particular clothing and not others. So If the school favored that brand of clothing then the students could were if. If not then they could not.
Some people say that having a uniform removes the pressure of keeping up with the latest trends and fashions along with removing that class barrier. So basically what I am trying to say is if you don't like it then change schools or home school. It is a mute point.

You should be suing for the lack of education you have received for the tax dollars we have all spent on your public education. In these times when everyone is yelling about their rights, very few know what they actually are. The first amendment of the constitution and the freedom of speech has to do with your freedom to speak out against your government, the members of your government and their policies. That is why you could say something like, "George W. Bush is a Nazi, who wants to kill Iraqi babies and lied to get us into a war for oil," and men with black arm bands don't break down your door, and take you away in the night never to be seen again. School uniforms do not violate your freedom of speech in any way. However, you might be able to make an argument under the fourteenth amendment containing the equal protection clause. Look both of them up. I think you could be on the road to responsible citizenship. Go to your library and check out a book about constitutional law, then you will really be able to make an educated argument. That would something that people would actually listen to.

You sound like an intelligent person to consider the first amendment and if it is being violated.
Using that intelligence.. try researching the prior court cases relating to school board authority in establishing such things as dress codes, or other rules and standards, relating to schools. You will find that you are way far from the first person to take this argument to a court, and courts have already ruled in favor of schools DO have that right.
Or in street language... you are S.O.L.

No it isnt.
Think about it.

How is that, in any way, interfering with anyone's rights to be themselves?

Grow up. Honestly.

School Uniforms were ment to better school systems, mainly by getting rid of the whole "rich kid vs. poor kid" thing.

Now a days people think they can sue for anything.
Aren't you stepping on their 1st admendment rights by sueing?

Not only that, but if you don't want your kid to go to a school with uniforms, grow a pair of nuts and enroll them in a different school. It's as simple as that.

(sorry if i came off offensive, but you did post this in a public online post.)

I think you will go nowhere fast with that accusation my friend. Good luck finding an attorney to take that one. How can you prove that they are intentionally trying to suppress your first ammendment right via school uniforms? If anything uniforms can actually help you realize how to be a better human being.

There is enough case law on the matter. Judges have ruled that mandatory school uniforms are not a first amendment violation. The Supreme Court has refused three times to hear appeals on the matter, so there really is nothing to argue about here.

Go to a different school. Freedom of speech allows you to complain about the rules, not break them on a whim. You have no case. No one is violating your rights.

How about if you just grow up and go to school and quit thinking you are special?

I am so sick and tired of kids thinking that suing anyone is the answer. Deal with life, WE DID.

i'm sorry but it din't did you know that there are some skools that have it in high skool. i had nuniforms in primary and middle skool now i'm free in high skool so wait till than you'll survive lol

Private schools are PRIVATE and does not have to conform with government run schools.. Sorry you lose!

Why would you want to? It quashes the children's right to free speech. Plus they are ugly and highly uncomfortable.
