Why are responsible adults penalized in the US while those who sponge are allowed to?

My wife and I are both college educated with secure jobs combined making 70K+/yr. Why is it that we would be better off if we were unemployed and I got her pregnant with three kids. We make too much for first time home buyer programs, we don't qualify for grants since I didn't leave her with a kid or two, and we had to pay for our own college education. I see people who have all their bills subsidized and spend their welfare check at the casino while we struggle to make ends meet. Does anyone care about those who do the right thing and keep themselves out of trouble?

yes we make 70K a year but we are both paying college loans ( I went to Penn State she went to Gettysburg), we have one used and 1 "new" car we barely were able to buy a 140K house based on banks restricting their loans because they made bad calls over the last 7 years. We have 1 credit card with no balance. Maybe we should live off credit cards and have 20k of debt too.

70k a year, and your struggling? Dude, tone down the lifestyle. I should have your problems, sheesh.

Uh, you probably wouldn't be better off if you were in that situation. There may be a few abusers, but no amount of welfare is going to get anyone to the quality of life you are living. If you don't believe me, then just quit your jobs, sell your house, and apply for welfare and see what happens. Go ahead, I challenge you.
