I have received a serious threat from a participant on this site?

This "person" claims to be a retired immigrant academic "working in higher-education" in the UK and posts frequent left-wing communist questions in the politics/Government section.

This "person" sent me a message entitled "racist cow" and threatened to attempt to get me fired from my job (which God knows, pays very little and only helps me keep my family's body and soul together anyway) out of sheer spite and malice because they do not agree with my political views.

My question is, what should I do about it? The police have already been informed and have confirmed they will be tracing the "person's" IP address. I will prosecute this individual should I receive any further communication or any further action be taken against me, for harrassment. I am not prepared to let this lie and will take to the law and the press if I have to. I will ensure the entire country knows of this "person" and their utter malice.

And advice would be appreciated.

The "person" has posted a photo of themselves on their 360 profile, which will also be passed to the police.

I am very sure this person did not mean those things and was only putting a scare to you. You are taking it a bit to serious and will be wasting alot of money attempting to get that person prosecuted in the long run.

I wouldn't worry about it if they are in another country what could they really do? It sounds like you did the right thing by contacting the police. Only a very savvy person knowing the computer inside and out would be able to find your ip and where you are. that is like what maybe 5% of people.

You seem to have it covered mate. The police already know, there's not much else you can fo about it. Just block the guy and try to avoid contact. The cops will handle the rest. You'll be fine mate. The bloke was probably just trying to scare you.

It sounds like you're doing all the right things. Stick to it. Make an example out of him. We have enough troubles dealing with fizzdude, this is a bit more serious than that. I support you 1000%. I would send it to Y/A customer services - I think I have had dealings with that person too.

If they repeat the threat get in touch with the Police.

Anyone who resorts to such things obviously knows their 'argument' hold no water!!!

Maybe we should know his ID? Or does he keep changing it? Do what you are doing. Get the police involved and don't give in. I am sure it is all empty threats, but keep the police involved anyway. And keep Yahoo informed also. They will bann him from Answers.

I think you've done exactly what you should have done and that is to inform the police. Ignorant people like this should be allowed to harass innocent folk.

blimey a bit of an extreme reaction methinks, it was prob some spotty 14 yr old with nothing better to do, personally i would have ignored it but if it bothers you that much inform Yahoo and the Police (which you have already done)

Well if you contacted the police, they will be tracing this persons IP since there are many, many wacko's on the internet these days. I would also contact the yahoo here, they might want to pull him from this site if need be or if other people are having the same problems.

Once you discover the identity of the person you should obtain a restraining order from the court to keep them from this type of activity.

Thanks for using this forum to retaliate against this person. If you were afraid or had any real problem with this person, you wouldn't post openly and would have just contact the police and Yahoo with your concerns.

by all means go ahead. this person has no right to do that and if he/she/it has broken the law then they should be ready to deal with the consequences.

That's hectic. Threats are serious and they should be taken action against. It's good you've reported the threat. All I can really say is I hope justice is served...

yeah- so do it. nobody has the right to email you with threats.

How would he know where you work? Do you do Y/A from work? Wouldn't that alone cause you to lose your job?
