Is a "good education" guaranteed in the Constitution?

The ACLU is suing a school district on behalf of parents because they say they are providing inadequate education to students.

Ok?

No, if most people read the Constitution, they would know that it is gives us certain rights within the country, not privileges paid for, or provided by the government. The government was to provide security and infrastructure, roads, and other common services used by all citizens. Much was to be left in the hands of the states. But the government has gotten way to involved with states, using subsides as bribes..

I find it amazing that this "everyone is equal" has just gone to far. It again, punishes the do-ers and rewards the lazy. We all have the same right to an education, some don't make a go of it. If you want a good education, read! Most libraries are free.

no

No but a good education would preserve it.

No, you can't teach intelligence. Either you have it, or you don't.

Yes, in the same way the Constitution guarantees you the right to talk on your cell phone at funerals, weddings, in class, in church, etc. (free speech clause)...

The federal constitution doesn't. I don't know about Florida's constitution. Some states have an "equal protection" clause in their constitution which mandates equal educational spending. For example, the state cannot provide a better education in one city than another. If one district is providing an inadequate education relative to other districts, that would be a violation of equal protection.

Unfortunately, it's very unclear in this article which constitution the ACLU is suing under- the United States Constitution, or the Florida Constitution. The U.S. Constitution doesn't speak to education, however the Florida Constitution may very well do so.

Also, it's nearly impossible to tell what the basis of a lawsuit is on a 5 sentence summary, especially when it's pretty likely that the reporter who wrote the summary either didn't read the suit, or didn't understand what they read.

No, but equal protection of the laws is.

There is a difference between a "good" education, which is arbitrary, and an "adequate" education, which is not.

What is the difference? It has to do with what the purpose of education is in the first place.

I will leave the rest as an exercise to the reader as they say :)
