Why shouldn't education be manditory?

I'm writing a persuasive essay about education and why it should NOT be manditory. It would also help if someone provided reasons why it should be manditory for counter argument purposes.

thanks,
chris.

Thoughtful question.
Freedom of choice I guess. If you really have freedom, you would be able to choose whether you want to attend school. Education doesn't necessarily make a person better. Generations before us have made do with no/little formal education. Did that make them scum of society? No.
Education isn't for everybody. I mean we can't all be Math whizzes or Spelling Bees. Some people learn just as well on the job without formal education.

Hey stay in school

education should be manditory because every human being is entitled to have education and be littirate . not having education means allowing some people to trample u and take advantage of u.

I honestly can't think of a reason why education shouldn't be mandatory. You don't think it should?

As a counter-argument I would say that the reason that education should be mandatory is because without requiring it, many children wouldn't feel compelled to get an education. I don't think there is any real argument that children don't need to learn to read and write or do math. Although some people later in life would wish to seek education even if it wasn't mandatory, others wouldn't have that desire and some wouldn't really understand the necessity.

Because it is impossible to force a person to learn.

Off the top of my head...

Education should not be mandatory because it infringes on an individuals freedom of choice. It does not take parents' opinions into account.

It should be mandatory because it is good for people to be educated. Good=enriching, develops thinking skills, helps one have a better chance financially, empowering

I can only come up with basic stuff at the moment. If I think of anything I'll edit. Good luck on your essay.

I'd argue that everybody needs a certain amount of education to be a functional adult in today's society. A person who doesn't have a basic level of education will always be at a disadvantage. Imagine if you couldn't read the instructions on a bottle of medicine. Imagine if you couldn't do enough math to know if you'd been shortchanged at the store. Imagine if you couldn't write well enough to apply for a job. What if you never went to health class and somehow missed learning about food groups or where babies come from? It would mess you up.

Children may not always want to go to school, but they're not old enough to decide for themselves that they don't need an education. I'd have liked to quit school when I was about 12, but I'd have regretted it later.

Parents should not be allowed to deny their children an education either because that would be neglectful, just like it would be neglectful to let a child eat nothing but jelly beans and never ever take a bath or brush their teeth.
