Can people without a proper education or non graduates get into highly paid jobs and compete with graduates?

Just curious about whether there is scope for non graduates or people with less education can compete with very highly educated people and work to get onto the higher management.

Thanks!!

Graduates vs non graduates... Does it matter today or is it all about performance....

Today I am 52 will be 53 36 days . I am retried .I have not work in 5 years .At 48 years I owned land my home, a very money making company, and I married my only wife jan. Life is good. I have a monthly income now from the stocks, at way over the pay of most over educated people. I dear have a 10th grade education. To answer YES you can you have to want it ,and you have to do it . you will not have nothing if you don't DO, A man or woman that sets and wishes will mever get it . They will only dream it.

The piece of paper gets you the interview. After that its all up to you.

Depends on what you want to do. Roughnecks make really good money, but it's hard hard work, and you are likely to lose toes or fingers...

If you're looking at getting into a professional career, most companies won't look at you twice without some formal education. There really isn't any excuse for not having an education...

My brother began working in 1975 for the Union Pacific Railroad with only a high school education. In the 35 years he has been with the UP, (he took a few years off) he has completed his BA degree and Law School.

He was making good money (about $60,000 from 80 to 90) when he graduated from law school.

It's like everything else. It depends on where you want to work and what other talents you bring to the table.

yes,I believe those people even w/out proper education can get into higly paying job in the sense that he/she really is smart/ intelligent and dedicated on his/her job.
There are some graduates tha don`t have job because he is not really smart enough though he/she graduated.

Performance

My opinion

Yes if you are clever and and had experience for some years in a job that people are looking for? Many people that are holding job are simply family that is why they easily get experience and they know the way in and out of the business.

Yes in some companies but you have to start further down the ladder and as you prove you know the job you can move higher. It well just take longer.

Let's pose this question to Bill Gates. He's doesn't have a degree. He dropped out of College. He however is one of the exceptions.

It really depends on the type of vocation choosen , you can't compare an orange with an apple.

it is more of skill than education in some professions. few examples are mine workers, oil fields workers, wine blenders etc. are highest paid , paid more than even scientists

however in white and blue collar jobs, where there is a requirement of good domain knowledge like doctors, engineers, MBAs, CAs etc. , there should always be a strong base to any experience. non graduates can never compete with highly educated people.

It's about performance. I khas a know of a guy who has a g.e.d education and is a VERY sucessful mortgage bisuness owner. I myself have a ged too and make very good money being a drywall finisher. let's say I make as much as a firemen. Then some cause I work alot of overtime. I like to work you see. I hate lazy ppl and thoses who tihnk they're better because they went to college. Did you know that most ppl who do go to clooege don't even end up with a career related to what they went to school for to begin with. At least I know I am very good at my job and it will never go out of business, there will forever be a need for what i do and that'a the best part of having and mastering a trade.

well it might be tough for them to get into the so called white collar jobs with out that education from formal schooling. but a blue collar type of job could definitely be done and if you get into the right type of thing and you are really knowledgeable then you can make some serious good money at that, cause I have heard they get paid good wages, and really good wages if they work on government buildings or construction sites. so yeah i think to a certain extent it is possible in those types of fields to be able to compete.

i have seen in my field of work people with a high paid education that know nothing about life or how to do the job, where a skilled person with a high school or less education can carry the load and be brilliant. A piece of paper does not prove how smart or how good you can be at a job only that you read enough books to get that paper. Experience is the best way for me.

From Bill Gates to Tiger Woods...

Both didnt finish tertiary education. If you really know what you want... and know how to get it... higher education is all just a peice of paper.
