Can a child leave education as soon as they turn 16 before doing there gcse exams?

Can a child leave education as soon as they turn 16 before doing there gcse exams?

i dropped out of school 5 days after i turned 16, i had welfare officers and everything around my house, threatening to take my mum to court.
i didnt drop out because i was a bad child, quite the opposite i dropped out because i was bullied, a compromise was reached in the end where i could stay home and have work sent to me from the school through the post, but they would have taken my mum to court if it didnt happen that way.

i still went back to do my gcse's and left with a*'s.
i think that i am better person for doing my gcse's and not taking the wrong route, which i would have regretted now.

hope this helps.

xx

no and they would be a fool to

They can drop out at 16 and when they do that who can make them take a gcse exam?

Good Luck!!!

No, I believe they may be able to stop attending in April but must return to sit their exams.

I would advise against leaving however the Law states once 16 a person can leave school.

technically yes, but they would be a fool to do so. They are supposed to do their exams but if they don't turn up the school can't really do much

In Mississippi, if a child turns 16 during the school year, he must complete that year. My sons wanted to quit in Dec., on his birthday, --thought he didnt have to go back after Christmas break, but his councelor told him different. I was glad. I'm the mom!

yes
once a person is 16 there is no legal reason for them to attend school as the law in the UK says you must attend or have some kind of schooling until you are 16 years of age unless your school leaving date comes before your 16th birth day

Yes.
Think hard before you do this, education is the way forward in your life

no, even if your not doing any exams you still cant leave untill the end of the school year, as the law say's you have to do so many year's in scholl it does not state when this finishes only that it cant start before the age of three, and as most school years start in august your have to stay on untill the school year ends, alltho school ploicy may differ (at my old school you could leave at easter if you was sixteen)

yes my daughter did this . it was hard for her to get a job at first but she then took a midday supervisor jod in a infant school she realy loved it and the head noticed how good she was with the kids and offerd her training to become a class room asistant whitch she took up to cut a long story short she is now a full time teacher.

Knowing a few kids who have dropped out, I think you can drop out at then end of term following your 16th birthday, ie, if you are 16 in March, you can drop out at the Easter holidays and no, you do not have to return for exams - but you would be a silly looser chav if you did this!
