A minor wants to live with me for education purposes? |
She is 17 and her mother is moving to Texas, we live in Pennsylvania. Her mother doesnt want to sign the school's guardianship papers. She doesnt turn 18 until July. Is there a way to go about this legally or will she have no choice but to move with her mother? If her mother moves with out signing any papers will she be able to stay here and still attend school? Can they deny you attending school? Also, if she stays and no one has any guardianship of her, what will be done in medical circumstances? Will she be able to sign for herself? Her schooling got messed up so she is a junior this year and still has next year to complete as well...moving might jeopardize her "junior status" more. This happened to a friend of mine he was a junior and moved and was then a sophmore in the next school, he ended up dropping out, I worry this will happen to her. Lots of issues. If her mom leaves her, she is still responsible unless the girl gets emancipated through the courts. That is a court question that is probably different by state. If she stays and her mom leaves, she will not be denied school but someone will have to become her temporary guardian, that can be done if her mom leaves, it's called desertion. Go to Social Services if you have to, but they will look into why she is there and make sure things are ok for her there. If she is sick, she can be treated by a Dr. in an emergency at the emergency room but the hospital may not want to touch her without a guardian....so. The mother leaving will be the biggest issue. Then you will have some hurdles to cross for her to remain in school. Who are you? A relative? A caring adult that has a family ? Are you a male friend that isn't supposed to be taking her from her mom? The issues all depend on some of the answers to some of these questions too. The right thing needs to be done. A 17 yr. old should be with mom until she is out of school and 18. That is my feeling.Unless you are a relative that has no agenda but the girl's welfare at heart. I stayed with a Friend of the family to graduate when my folks moved out of state. It was only for a month or so! I don't think that there where any paper signings tough. I showed up at school and went to my temp home afterwards! |
