As a taxpayer of a school district am I entitled to a public high school education in that district?

I used to live in a school district with my parents who then moved at the begining of my senior year. I chose to stay in that district, and lived with my grandparents in the next town over. We did, however, maintain the home and paid our property taxes on it. Does that in itself permit me to attend school within that district?

I know there are (or should I say were) way around it, I am not looking for that. Rather, I am wondering if there is a federal (or New York State) law that requires a district to provide taxpayers or a district a free education.

In Kansas City Missouri the answer is yes, I have no idea about your location.

Depends on your districts laws. Some allow those outside he district to attend, others do not, I'd check with your local city hall.

No it does not.

In most counties it doesn't have anything to do with paying taxes.

It's all about your legal residence, and age of course. If you list your residence as that old home address in the county you want to go to school in, it should get you around a legal loophole.

Yes... and with Bush's "no child left behind" act... you are SUPPOSED to be able to go to any school you want and the bus is supposed to take you there...

...as you can see, that plan was not thought all the way through...
