What should the US do to foreign students who fail to go back to their home countries due to over-education? |
There are many foreign students in the US who have graduated from college, got thier masters and would like to work in the US. However, the US requires them to go back to their home countries. Home countries are not ready to accept these individuals due to exposure to the western world and the high pay that they would expect to pay these students. an example is a student from Japan who is studying Non Profit Managment. There are very few non profits in Japan because of the low level of giving. Japan is a for profit nation and therefore the skills this student has will not be favored. The US should try to retain such gifted individuals and let them stay in the country and help build the already existing non-profit sector or social service agencies that are always looking for human service workers. ok first off, to the first answer, international students do pay a lot more than instate or outstate students, say a college as an anual tuition of 10k for instate, outstate is more like 12k, international is more like 25k, its been a while since i talked about this w/ friends, i have around 50 friends of mine that are or were international students from all over the world, but many from the middle east, and it is a problem, yeah, it is basically the truth that they come over here knowing that they will be going home after their education, bc it is hard to get a work visa just after an education visa, near impossible in most cases, but they are also under FBI surveylance, i know bc, i once got asked by a "stranger" who asked me if i knew where one of my friends friend was, and i said i didnt really know him that much, but then they opened a briefcase w/ photos and files on most of my friends, if they were a thret they wouldnt be here anymore, so if they can be deemed non threatning i think they should stay here, whats the use of jobs going oversees, im sure most of the ppl that replied to this havnt ever met an international student, (and i mean actually talked to, not seen in a class or on the street) ignorance is a bliss that i dont live in and choose not to, some ppl like it apparently. bc the - - truth is relative, and if your inbred whats that do to your view of the truth? - - My opinion is that foreign students should pay 5 times as much as an American and they should be deported the day they graduate. Umm the US should be using it's resources on the gifted individuals in the United States.......if they came here and got an education they can't use in their own country then bummer for them......buhbye have a nice day, and thanks for playin. Deport them Hunt them down and deport them asap I beleave the students are well aware of what they are getting into. they have agreed to be educated and return home. If they decide that they want to become an American after they are educated they should take the proper steps to become a citizen. There are already steps in place to do this see ya! Send them to Iraq to fight It seems like you already answered your own question. I'm not sure therefore of the reasons for you to post. Why would a Japanese student study non-profit management when he/she knows it will not be a viable education in Japan? Was it the intent to stay in the US from day one? A mind is a terrible thing to waste. If they are highly educated and want to work in the United States, good, all the better for the United States. In the future the strongest countries will be the ones with brainpower, not manpower. Really I don't feel too bad for these students they knew that they had a set amount of time and if that time is up they can apply for citizenship after they return to their country. They also should have studied something that would be useful in their country knowing that they would have to return sooner or later. So sorry, but if a person violates our laws, I'm afraid they must go back home as they promised when they came. This shouldn't be a surprise and it is too bad if there was bad advice or planning at the start. But, if this person is truly gifted, then I would advise that they retain employment legally from a US organization who can apply for a work permit for them. If the work permit is denied, then that means that there are already enough qualified US citizens who can take these jobs. I completely agree with Oreobaby. The US is granting a priviledge to those who wish to study in our country. A person with a student visa is fully aware of their obligation to return to their home country. If they choose a major that will not grant them opportunities in their home country, then they need to take the necessary steps to reside legally in a country that will pay for their services. If, indeed, there is a gifted student that wants to remain in the U.S. after graduating, many employers will sponsor the student for an H1B visa that will allow them to stay legally in the U.S. If the student does well at the job, the employer could follow up and apply for permanent resident status (green card). I do not feel sorry for these students. Many of them came here via gov't grants and received a free education. I am an American who "fell through the cracks" (family earned too much to get aid, yet wasn't poor enough to qualify either). I have a problem with all of the tuition money that foreigners are receiving to study here. Shouldn't we be taking care of our own? Furthermore, these foreigners take jobs away from Americans who need the jobs to PAY for their student loans. Send 'em home. |
