My gf is being blackmailed by her family not to see me or else lose out on college education money - HELP!?

My gf and I (both consenting adults) are going on a vacation soon. For some reason, her father will not allow her to go. He says that if she does he will cut off college tuition payments (even though he had verbally agreed to pay her tuition costs). Is it allowed, because he has made previous payments in the past to blackmail her like this just because he does not want his daughter to go on vacation? Please help!

It is completly legal. If that payment is not made then she cannot start the next semester. If you want to call their bluff then go, if you think they are serious then maybe vacation is not worth risking her education over.

I don't know about america but in my country there is a law that states that as long as the child is studying and doesn't have a job yet, the parent has to pay for it. So, you might want to read up on your state's laws or whatever.

Her father doesn't care if she goes on vacation. He just doesn't want her wasting her life away on a loser like you. Let her go so she can move on to bigger and better things and start dating a crack 'ho'.

If you are both adult enough, then you should pay for your own tutitons,people who have there parents paying for them are lucky and you should respect what they say.

she needs to comply at the moment for the sake of education but dont let it continue. if she has decent grades she needs to apply for her own financial aid and scholarships and get out of her parents grip.

Her parent's have no legal obligation to pay for her college.

Trust me, I scrimped and saved for my son to go to college. When I tried taking his father to court to come up with 1/2 the money, the judge said if we were not divorced then we would not have to pay, so my ex- should not have to pay now.

Hey, he is paying the bills, his house, his rules. Suck it up. If you want to go on vacation with your girl friend, marry her, make it a honeymoon.

I don't know what country viva comes from, but here in America, college is entirely voluntary, and is by no means considered a right.

If her father wants to withold the money, then he can. He doesn't have to pay for anything, once she turns 18 and is an adult.

It may not be considerate, or the right thing to do, but it's his right.

I recommend that you tell your girlfriend that college is obviously more important than any vacation, and do what you can to reschedule to a later date. This may give her father the impression that you have respect for his wishes, and that you want her to have a good relationship with her father. Likely, that will add to the plus column, in his eyes.

In the U.S., parents are only obliged to pay for (or provide schooling for) underage children, so your gf is on her own.

Of course, she could always do what *I* did: pay for her own education. It's possible to work and go to college at the same time; many people do.

If your girlfriend is an adult perhaps she should be paying her own tuition and not expect her father to support her. Then she could control her own life.

In America it is legal. This isn't blackmail by legal definition. It is the parents telling her make a choice, she can go on vaction, or she have them pay for college. Blackmail isn't really giving a choice. Yeah they wouldn't give her the tution BUT she doesn't HAVE to go to college or have to have them pay.

if your gf needs the money, then i would say postpone the vacation until after you graduate or her father becomes more reasonable. bec your gf is a legal adult, her father is not bound by law to provide for her anymore and if you don't have a legal document forcing him to keep paying, i'm afraid youre going to have to listen to him. unless she's able to afford college herself. in which case tell him to **** himself

You have every right to like that girl. On the other hand, the father has every right not to like you. Since a college education is probably worth a lot to her, she needs to think very seriously about this "vacation." It may turn out to be a vacation from happiness for the rest of her life. I say skip the vacation and let her go to college. If you two are still friends after she finishes college, take the vacation then.

This should be about her, not about you. Why? Because you have nothing at risk. She has quite a lot at risk.
